Review summary

The Anthem of the Seas is a great modern and high tech cruise ship. I enjoyed it a lot since this was our first time on board. We like the specialty restaurants such as Chops, Wonderland and Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver. Although I am not a drinker, I enjoyed the two robots mix and serve drinks to the patrons.

Embarkation

Once we entered the port of Bayonne, we were stuck in traffic for over an hour! That was ridicules.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We like the specialty restaurants such as Chops, Wonderland and Jamie’s Italian by Jamie Oliver. All other nights, we ate at the Coastal Kitchen since we had a Jr. Suite. Great ambiance, staff and food selections.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
North star, rock climbing (by my wife as my back was not happy) and the go carts (yes I am a child at heart).

Entertainment

5 out of 5
All of the shows were great and done by high energy performers.

Children's Programs

we did not have any children with us.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff are very friendly and accommodating.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Layout is great for navigation and access to various venues.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Jr. suite was great, plenty space, with full bathtub and shower plus a separate toilet area.

Ship tip

The ship is high tech. North Star is a must.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

Industrial port. Very hard to get in and out of. Minimum nearby facilities such as coffee shops (I was able to locate one (Dunkin Donuts). Getting of th ship is even more difficult.

I loved this small town. Ate lunch (yes, lobster of course) with my wife in the port while we watched the marine traffic.

Halifax, Nova Scotia

Friendly port. We walked the entire wharf. Clean and plenty of public toilets and wash rooms. Things to see are Maritime Museum of the Atlantic and glass blowing. Took the ferry across the channel. We rode public bus to the Shearwater Aviation Museum. It was a good experience.

Saint John, New Brunswick

The weather was cold and rainy. We were not able to experience the entire town. We liked what we say. I connected with a fellow photographer who was friendly and we chatted for a while.

It took us, are you ready, over an hour to get of the ship after they called our number. They attributed the slowdown to the fact that they were using facial recognition for immigration. I really hate standing in lines for super extended time.
