Review summary

i really was disappointed in the this cruise. the last cruise i was on was the Oasis and these two ships are on different spectrums. I was so looking forward to the Anthems, i was kinda shocked. i did not like the shopping choices, food was unacceptable the majority of the time and the entertainment was a total miss. Sorry, i was not at all a happy "camper".

Embarkation

walked into a chaotic arena. my mom pre booked everything including uploading her picture as well as paying for beverage service. none of these features seemed to be accurate. she had to reenter all this info while we waited in a non forming line.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
some of the worse food we have had on a cruise. breakfast meat was subpar. buffet food was hard to choose from. messy a lot of the time. food did not seem fresh. seated dining room food had zero appeal and selections. did not eat at Wonderland, because menu was so over the top, i would not have known what to select for dinner. was not impressed with any of the other menus offered at pay restaurants. thats something we look forward to is going to an up charge dining. did not do that on this cruise. getting seated for anytime dining was at the least a total fiasco. there were many disconnects. we were hustled into one dining room to be turned around to the other side or even downstairs. very different then any other "dining room" experience we have had. even on RC.

very nice to get a piece of fresh made pizza most anytime. even after having a full dinner in the dining rooms. this was a saving grace a lot of time.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
bumper cars were very neat for families as well as us adults. had fun with that. used the solarium hot tubs. very nice. like solarium "no kids" feature

Entertainment

1 out of 5
THE SPECTER CAB SHOW WAS A TOTAL "HOT MESS". I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT WAS A BOOKED SHOW. THIS IS NOT CRUISE SHIP MATERIAL. I ALSO DID NOT CARE ABOUT HEARING HOW MUCH YOU SPENT ON THE TWO 70 CLUB BECAUSE I THINK YOU WAISTED 35 MILLION DOLLARS ON IT. SEATING IS TERRIBLE, VIEWING IS TERRIBLE, AND THE OVER ALL ARENA IS UN APPEALING. Comedian was outstanding (Ron) We will rock you was a great show. "why the need to book shows"?? you should be able to accommodate the amount of people on the cruise. plus they were easy to miss if you couldn't get in anyway. just saying

i heard too many times how much you spent on the venue, 35 million dollars, not impressed.---sorry!! I'm sure you spent more then that on the engines, keep these statistics to yourself, i am on a cruise and don't want to hear about the cost of things.

Children's Programs

i did not bring children, however it seemed like a lot of neat things for kids to do.

Service and Staff

2 out of 5
room steward was amazing. that would be the extent of service. dining staff, host, bartenders all seemed robotic and not at all happy to be there. i hate to be so vague, but no one really made a lasting impression like on many other cruises i have been on.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
over all the ship was clean and nicely laid out. very appealing to a first time cruiser or long time cruiser.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
very nice cabin, roomy, clean and the steward was very pleasant. i enjoyed the room very much.

Ship tip

pick this ship for a different itinerary. be prepared to be underwhelmed with the entertainment.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

4 out of 5
nice terminal, close to our home which is convenient

Port Canaveral, Florida

3 out of 5
ok, took a NASA tour. nice to go but really not a caribbean experience or destination.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

2 out of 5
not enough beach seating. could barely find a spot to eat food either. terrible tendering. should have stayed on ship

Nassau, Bahamas

2 out of 5
bahamas never change

Disembarkation

3 out of 5
no problems leaving ship or the parking and port area.

We have cruised Oasis class twice and Anthem back in March. Totally different just as we expected but we loved both.

I agree with most of your observations. Anthem has a learning curve to it and isn't like other cruises. It does seem to me that the complimentary food quality has gone done on all the ships we have been on in the last few years. For us, Anthem is a great ship to relax on and we enjoyed our vacations on her.

I can understand your feelings about Anthem. I thought it was sterile and too new age like. I love the atmosphere and neighborhood concepts of Oasis class ships much better. Oasis class ships are just more fun and more festive to me.

I can relate to dining room and windjammer. Don’t understand how anyone can eat in the windjammer food is so dried out and no one is watching people touch food. Such a shame I’ve been on 7 cruises and I’m really turned off
