Review summary

Overall okay but nothing special.. Celebrity and Norwegian do a better job (for different reasons) in my opinion.. RCL has grown too fast and is not able to maintain its quality and service overall.. Its a shame.. We will not consider them again in our future travels as our concerns were never addressed at any time on board.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Smooth and fast- RCL has gotten this one right..Car drop off in adjacent and expensive lot to actually boarding the ship took less than half an hour.. But once on board not all restaurants open and the Windjammer (main cafeteria)( is super packed and not large enough to accommodate all.. many ships have main restaurants open but not this one so its a very uncomfortable, Its like sardines in a can at lunch. If you can find a table to sit at there are constant waves of people passing by and rubbing against you.. and hovering and stalking ! Not very comfortable at all....

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Food at buffets are overall acceptable but they annoyingly close completely down to get ready for each session, instead of rolling half the windjammer down between lunch and say dinner so that you can always get something.. This is a practice at all restaurants/venues such as solarium and two seventy as well as windjammer and you are forced to hop around looking for something to eat... its a very uncomfortable issue. We were told that RCL had about 1600 children on board for this cruise.. Seems they had a special deal.. Packs of unsupervised kids roamed around , hitting all the elevator buttons and causing turmoil in many areas, including the ones reserved for adults.. Security seemed non existent or unwilling to address.. way too many kids.. Not sure RCL cares as they make lots of money on them...Very disappointing as this ruined the experience !!!

Jamie's Italian

5 out of 5

Food and service were excellent and worth the upcharge.. Special thanks to Mihaela for making our dinner there most pleasant.. warm, engaging and a specialist regarding all menu items. Her knowledge of Italy and our love for all things Italian endeared us to her, and we returned a second night because of her ! She is a true professional and represents RCL with class, definitely a cut above!

Coastal Kitchen

5 out of 5

Excellent food and service- They will also get you anything from main dining room menus.. Kudos to Ruben and Juan who did a fantastic job for us..

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5

Entertainment

3 out of 5
singers and dancers terrific, there was no command of the entertainment spaces. Kids ran amok, no one intervened. Teenagers vaping, toddlers crying middle schoolers strutting, didn't matter. Parents obviously believed their right to the cruise experience meant not watching their kids. Security finally removed kids on the last night, on previous nights they ruined the experience. We walked out three nights because of the bedlam. Disgraceful. and the cruise director made jokes about them Unprofessional and enabling !

Solarium

3 out of 5

Ship was half the time in cold weather so solarium is a valued asset to have.. However there is a big issue with not enough chairs( i estimate you can easily get 100 more in by swapping out the round ones and moving them closer like in inside pool..Fights over people claiming chairs for the day and disappearing were frequent.. Not pleasant and welcome- this can be easily fixed if RCL wants to address and police the area better..

Children's Programs

we did not bring children clearly inadequate based on the volume of roaming kids.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Overall staff were very pleasant and competent.. Wilbur , our cabin attendant was outstanding!!!

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Our cabin was immaculate except for some ants on the balcony. common areas were clean but pool areas very little attention to bar service, towel pickup, place was very messy most of the time.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
Cabin very nice and spacious enough for two.. very well situated and quiet..Beds were rock hard- like sleeping on a floor which caused many a body ache.. Seems RCL wants to encourage you to get regular massages to work out the pain that the beds inflict.. Everyone we spoke to complained about the beds.. RCL you need to fix this as a matter of urgency.. Very bad!!! Four days off the ship still have a backache, awful!!!

Ship tip

Bring a cushioned mattress topper cause your body will hurt if you do not... My luggage was held by security because of two bottles of water- not good PR- seems they want you to buy expensive drinks on board and changed their policy.. Also the internet VOOM service is pricey and sporadic.. The commercial on the cabin TV said $12.99 but they were charging 15.99 per day for the basic service.. That i call bait and switch- poor representation of services..

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

2 out of 5
In the middle of nowhere.. Nothing nearby.. very industrial..

Port Canaveral, Florida

2 out of 5
Nothing special unless you want to go to Disney parks for $180.00 per person. And spend three hours on a bus..

Miami, Florida

1 out of 5
seems there was a very very large fee attached to port charges for this stop.. You can do better than Miami.. and save us several hundred each in charges..RCL used this stop to parade around travel agents while in port..

Nassau, Bahamas

3 out of 5
Typical Caribbean island..

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island) Did not visit port

they stayed in nassau over night.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Fast and smooth.. They could use a few more Customs/immigration guys to make it faster but of course they have to pay for that and RCL are cheap..

I was probably on the same sailing and there were tons of kids running around. It was insane.

I loved it. Your on vacation you cant let every little thing bother you , sounds like you need to go somewhere where there are no kids

Yikes! I'm getting a 50-50 with the reviews everywhere about Anthem! It's making me a little antsy because I board in a few weeks. 😞

I agree, was not a fan of Anthem! Love Norwegian.

Wow I had such a total opposite experience :( Anthem is my favorite! Service was amazing My first cruise was on Norwegian and I really liked it Next cruise on royal and I immediately said I’ll never do Norwegian again! Lol To each his own I guess I’ve come around and now I think I would try some of Norwegians newer ships there was nothing wrong with it really- just dies not compare to the quality of Royal in my opinion
