Review summary

Overall the cruise was fun if somewhat flawed. If it had been my first experience cruising it would probably also have been my last. But as I have been on others that were really amazing I will continue to cruise.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Very quick and painless. The worse part was getting through the traffic jam outside.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
On the whole the food was good and the specialty restaurants were very good. I just wish they would find a better way to manage the seating in the Windjammer buffet. It’s a nightmare to find a table during busy times.

Wonderland

5 out of 5

A fun experience for everyone. I love the unique menu and interesting presentation. The food is delicious and the staff will work around any issues or allergies. But don’t go if you aren’t at least a little adventurous.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We really enjoyed the bumper cars although they could have run them more often. At one point the line wrapped around the entire ring. We also had fun playing trivia, but on at least two occasions the event was canceled. I can do without all the shopping hype. And I was not happy with the rude staff of the North Star. They split up our group and when I complained the staff member said “what do you want me to do about it?” On the flip side the staff of the iFly and the Flow Rider were great.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The productions at the Royal Theater were excellent. And the bands in the smaller venues were also very good.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Most staff were good to very good, but the Wow factor that Royal advertises was lacking.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Cleanliness was a key element for Royal on this trip. I appreciate their desire to keep any germs at bay. But they took it a step too far with two very annoying songs about washing your hands playing in a continuous loop while we were docked in Nassau.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

3 out of 5
Fine as a point of origin but there is nothing right at the port worth seeing. It seems like a stretch to call it a port of call.

Port Canaveral, Florida

2 out of 5
Not a great deal to do. There is a shuttle service outside that charges $15 round trip to go to the beach or shopping.

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island) Did not visit port

Bad weather

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
The town is a faded beauty crowded with shopping for tourists. There are some architectural gems hidden among the souvenirs shops and jewelry stores.

Disembarkation

1 out of 5
Easy process taking luggage off ourselves and line for customs was moved along quickly by some very serious staff. They would be great moving the crowds in the Windjammer.

Thank you for the review. I will be traveling this ship for the first time. Ive traveled 4 other times with Carnival. I am a little worried with this ship being larger. I have a better idea what to expect now.
