Review summary

Previously we have preferred smaller ships. Anthem has become our favorite RC ship. It never seemed too crowded and venues such as the Solarium and the Solarium Bistro were the best.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Embarkation was really easy. We entered the terminal at about 11:15 and checked in with a representative with an iPad. We then went through security and were in the Windjammer by 11:40.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food in the free venues ran from average to good. Chops steakhouse was unbelievable. The steaks were delicious and the service was wonderful. We believe that Royal Caribbean has ruined the Johnny Rockets experience. On other ships JR has table service and the wait staff dances to rich and roll music. On Anthem JR is more like a McDonald's or Burger King. You have to order at one window and wait for the food to be ready, There is no wait staff and the menu has been reduced.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
The Solarium was our favorite place on the ship. There were always seats available and the pools were delightful.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
There were three shows that required reservations. We saw all three. The gift has a confusing plot that we couldn't follow, but the singers were really good. Specter's Cabaret and We Will Rock You were the two best shows we have ever seen at sea --- and this was our 24th cruise.

Children's Programs

We didn't sail with kids.

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
This would have been a 5 star rating except for our cabin steward. He failed to clean the cabin properly and refused to help me get my soda cup when one wasn't delivered to the room. Everyone else was friendly and professional.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
The ship was spotless.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We had a standard balcony cabin so it's small size didn't surprise us. It did seem narrower than others we had experienced. There was sufficient storage space and the balcony was a nice size. The couch was horrible, I have a bad back and often get out of bed during the night to sit straight up. The couch didn't help.

Ship tip

If Charlie, the singer/guitar player, is performing in Michael's Genuine Pub, you must go there . He is terrific.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey Did not visit port

King's Wharf, Bermuda

5 out of 5
We did not do an excursion but spent time with friends who live in Bermuda.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Much easier and faster than we had expected. We left the ship at about 7:50am and were on the sidewalk waiting for our ride about 45 minutes later.

Hope the Anthem can keep pleasing you with different itineraries. I have my own favorite class of ship. It is nice to feel comfortable onboard.
