Review summary

Very frustrating experience. I am fighting to get my money back. There was nothing about this trip that was easy or user friendly for someone who has a disability and can only walk short distances. On a five night trip I was talking and visiting with guest services at least 7 times and ended up in tears. Some relaxing cruise!

I love it when people find out the hard way that "poor planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on my part. We can all rest easy knowing Royal will never, ever, ever refund this guy's money.

i actually hope they wouldn't. Doing research ahead of time is a wonderful thing.

I doubt they are going to give you your money back...

My husband has been in a W/C for 30+ years. We were on the Anthem in January n are going again the end of Sept. We had no trouble with accessibility. We had gotten an accessible cabin, we drove to NJ & he was able to drive his electric W/C right on the ship. The staff couldn't have been any more helpful! Now FYI we did have to book several months in advance to get the cabin, but well worth it. Can not wait to go again in Sept!!!

just lack of planning ahead and trying to blame the boat.

I'm very surprised - when I went on Anthem there were a lot of people using disability scooters so I am surprised you couldn't use one? If you tried to that is? Otherwise I am confused as to why not?

When I was on the Anthem I saw alot of people with scooters. Not too sure if they rented them or they were their own. Definitely call the cruise line before you sail and discuss your concern. With the size of the Anthem I could see it being challenging to navigate if you are disabled and don't have proper transportation.

So sad to hear that. They do have those electric wheelchair scooters. I helped a lady maneuver hers to get out the elevator one day.

My husband is disabled and it has been fairly easy for him to get around ship by us renting an electric mobility cart from specialneedsatsea.com (the only company authorized by cruise lines to bring equipment on board). it has been in our room as soon as we get there. adds some expense but well worth it. for some extra money we have had them deliver it to the hotel before cruise and we rented a van to get it to the ship so he could ride to room easily. they also have collapsible wheelchairs and transfer chairs available.

Jrosspt1 sorry to hear your experience was not a good one. I hope you get some compensation, some people don't realize the challenges people with disabilities face. I'm a nurse and see the challenges, hopefully this one experience will not discourage you from cruising again, just look at reviews regarding people with disability that cruise and maybe they will lead you to the right cruise ship.

You should have had a wheelchair or rented a scooter. Why blame the cruise ship for your lack of preparedness.

Did you rent a scooter?
