Review summary

My favorite part of this cruise was the large solarium area for adults.  I loved the layout of the adult area.  It was enclosed with a tropical feel.  The 3 tier level pools were filled with warm water that cascaded down like a waterfall.  I did not care for the quality of food on this cruise.  The selection was large, but compared to other cruises, the taste was not at the higher standards that I have experienced on other ships.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
The food quality was poor.

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
My Northstar experience was cancelled due to weather. Although I had booked it far in advance, they did not have availability to reschedule it at another time. The iFly, which requires a reservation ran 40 minutes late. It was a neat experience though. The instructors seemed a little impatient, but that may have been due to the stress of running behind schedule.

Entertainment

3 out of 5
I attended two musical shows. The first one had technical difficulty half-way through and the other was quite boring.

Children's Programs

3 out of 5
I did not utilize the children's program.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Our stateroom attendant, Chahaun, was wonderful.

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
This ship was clean in all areas. The design was not my favorite. I did not like the dining area set-up compared to other ships. They are separate, instead of having a large impressive dining experience.

Cabin / Stateroom

1 out of 5
The cabin was small, but organized. However, the second pull-out bed was so close to the dresser area, you could hardly get to the balcony. Also, the beds were horribly uncomfortable. I am surprised at how hard the mattresses were. I expected that the pull-out bed would be less than soft, but I have did not expect that from the regular beds. When you don't sleep well, it does affect the entire trip!

Ship tip

Don't book the NorthStar on a sea day. Cancellation is more likely to happen while at sea. Book as much as you can before you cruise due to the lack of availability while on board. Ask about extra padding for the bed before you go. They may be able to add a pad or something.

Ports of call

Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey

5 out of 5
If you are staying in a balcony room, pick a room on the port (left) side of the ship.

Port Canaveral, Florida

5 out of 5

Cococay (Cruise Line's Private Island)

5 out of 5
This stop requires a tender to the island. Be sure to go down to get a tender ticket early in the day, otherwise you will have to wait quite awhile before getting there.

Nassau, Bahamas

5 out of 5
Book an excursion here. Snorkeling is great. The port is very congested with many ships arriving on the same day. Shopping is very stressful due to the large amount of people and traffic around the port area.
