Great trip on the Danube...

Sail Date: May 24, 2014

Traveled As: Couple

Room Type: Oceanview

The ship was new and modern.  The internet, while free, is often not working; same with the TV.  This was the biggest downfall.  The food was plentiful and excellent.  The wine and beer flowed freely at lunch and dinner, and champagne was self serve at breakfast.  (all included).  The cruise director was very helpful with planning independent touring, and the ship provided guided tours were all very good.  We never used the pool or sundeck due to inclement weather, however, they would have been used, if warmer and drier!  Rooms are not large, but we knew this when we booked.  We had enough space, although we are normally accustomed to junior suites on ships.  The bathroom was challenging.  The only electrical socket was inside the medicine cabinet, so to use it, you would not be able to simultaneously use the mirror....driving blindly.  I would liked to have had more light in the bathroom.  We used the laundry service which was very fast, efficient, and generally returned the same day.  The prices were much less than standard hotel pricing.  Most items were 1.2 Euros; higher if you requested ironing.  I also used the hair salon.  The stylist was very good on my challenging hair, and again, much less expensive than hotel pricing.  Since there is only one on board, she does tend to book up, so appointments made early on would be a good idea.  There is a small gym on board that was either empty or full all the time!  I would certainly consider using them again.

Ship Quality
Great with the caveats mentioned in detail. AMA can certainly cure the problems.
Food and Dining
Cabin / Stateroom
Service and Staff
Everyone on board is wonderful, helpful and friendly.
Local cultural entertainment, not oceanliner quality.
Children's Programs This is not a cruise for children.
Onboard Activities
See comment about local cultural entertainment.
Destinations and Excursions
All were great except Bratislava, which was dull and boring.
Vilshofen, Germany
Passau, Germany
Linz, Austria
Melk, Austria
The ABBEY is a must see. Much greater than advertised.
Durnstein, Austria
Vienna, Austria
We went to Schonbrun, and then stayed til closing to see more; easy cab back to ship. Then we returned to Vienna for 3 days after the cruise to see everything in the city.
Bratislava, Slovakia
A waste. The 1 hour city tour is fine. We walked around more, but it was boring. Stay on the ship and take a nap.
Budapest, Hungary
Mohacs (Pecs), Hungary Not on our tour
Vukovar, Croatia Not on our tour
Belgrade, Serbia Not on our tour
Cruise The Iron Gates Not on our tour
Vidin, Bulgaria Not on our tour
