Honestly, I don't know if anyone will even read this so I hesitate to share. The main problem was that I have some expectations from RCCL that are usually met, but fell FAR short this cruise. The Quest was cancelled, the Battle of the Sexes was cancelled, formal night had turned into Caribbean night, and it was because there was a dance competition onboard which affected many of the things we've grown to love and expect onboard. This would be fine if you had TOLD US WHEN BOOKING. If we'd known, we'd have chosen a different cruise because we REALLY love those things! We are fine with the new once a day cabin cleaning, but the room steward asked us what time we'd like to have our rooms cleaned. We told him, he marked it down, then when we returned towards the end of that window he asked us again. We were like, uh, you asked and we said 9 to 11? Room wasn't cleaned before noon on any of the days, and when your cruise director talks about towel animals and there isn't one ever, it's a bummer. We are tidy non-drinkers, so it's not like going into our room would be a horrendous undertaking. If you're not going to clean when you say, then don't ask us and create expectations that we plan around and are then disappointed. And don't have your cruise director talk about towel animals if it's not something everyone gets. Food in the main dining room was consistently tepid to cold, which was a first for me. Our wait staff was fine but the food took so long to come out that we ended up sitting there with nothing in front of us for long periods of time. There was a woman who came by to ask us if we were happy, but we didn't feel comfortable saying "hey, we've been sitting here with nothing on the table for 15 minutes" because she could obviously see that and we didn't want to be those people. The upsides for us were the as always fantastic shows and live music. When I told my friend that the aqua show would be amazing, I was so happy that she loved it. But I spent a lot of the weekend being embarrassed that the service and food just wasn't there. And I don't think that's normal for RCCL. Or, I hope it's not normal for RCCL. I know the Allure should have gone into dry dock to get Amped before the pandemic, and I feel like it's a mistake to keep her in service doing the shorter trips (which I love and which works really well with my schedule), without making her beautiful again and without making the level of service consistent with the rest of the line. We have an upcoming cruise in August on the Quantum with our adult daughters, I'm now a little nervous and I hope I made the right choice to stick with RCCL for our first Alaska cruise-everyone is telling me I should have gone Disney, but we've never sailed on a Quantum class ship and I am sincerely hoping that the service is what we're used to, and what I experienced on the Allure this weekend was an aberration. One last thing-in 2023 I did the same cruise with my friend on the Mariner, and the smell of pot was really, really bad. This cruise on the Allure I didn't smell it once, and I really appreciate y'all for making sure that our vacation was not stinky! Mariner won for food and service, Allure won for shows and not smelling drugs. Moving forward, the Quantum trip in August is sort of our "make or break" trip where we decide if we want to keep leveling up with RCCL or pivot to a different line. I love RCCL, but I loathe inconsistency of experience.

Port Canaveral is efficient and easy to get to. The embarkation experience has always been smooth with RCCL.

Food and Dining

I was shocked at the lack of options at the Windjammer, the main dining room (where we ate every night) took forever and our food was cold. I missed the option of the "regulars" like prime rib if you didn't like the evening's options. I know they've redone the menu to include a few repeats like the grilled chicken, but that's a really boring option. The Mexican quick service restaurant's meat was cafeteria quality and we regretted waiting in line to eat there. I didn't like that the Solarium now allows kids into the food area-nothing like hearing crying babies as you're sitting in the Solarium trying to chill out. I also didn't like how the restaurant in the Solarium isn't open for as long as it used to be. I brought my friend with me and she's used to Disney cruise level quality food, and I was embarrassed. When we cruised together last year on the RCCL Mariner, the food was fine and the dining service was efficient and hot, I don't know what's up with the Allure's food but wow, it was consistently not good at all and definitely not up to the par of the other RCCL ships.
Onboard Activities

The Quest was cancelled, the Battle of the Sexes was cancelled, formal night had turned into Caribbean night, and it was because there was a dance competition onboard which affected many of the things we've grown to love and expect onboard. This would be fine if you had TOLD US WHEN BOOKING. If we'd known, we'd have chosen a different cruise because we REALLY love those things! We paid for pickleball lessons, and the lesson started 30 minutes late because the courts were wet. The instructors said they had asked housekeeping to dry it but nobody showed up, so the instructors had to do it, and they didn't start until 7:30, which was when the lesson started. Then we got kicked off at 9 am for open play, so 30% of our lesson was spent watching them towel dry the court until one guy with a dryer showed up and walked through our lessons for another 30 minutes. Not cool. Also, the instructors asked us each our names, then proceeded to never use them again, lol. I ended up slipping and falling on a wet spot on the court when we were playing. I was fine, it was just embarrassing to do that in front of everyone.
Entertainment

Every single show was absolutely amazing, and we saw them all! Mamma Mia, Aqua show, Blades, and the comedy show, all top notch and they were the highlight of our cruise. Loved that we could hear music every where we went, except for maybe the loud band right outside the solarium the first day. The Solarium also played pop music at a high level constantly, which is totally different from what the Oasis used to do-it was impossible to focus on a book when you're being Rick Rolled at 9 am. Please bring back the spa music to the Solarium! Please keep kids completely away from the Solarium! It's our sanctuary when we need to decompress from all the noise onboard.

Service and Staff

Room steward asked us what time we wanted our rooms cleaned, we said 9-11 window worked for us. Room was never cleaned in that window, and we never got a towel animal. Which we didn't expect until the cruise director asked us if we were enjoying our towel animals and we were like, um, what towel animals? I have a certain level of expectation from RCCL staff-it's not Disney level, but it should be consistent and competent. When I asked guest services where the clock tower was to debark (we had purchased the Key and had a different exit) he sent us over to the general exit line which was HUGELY long. We got back out of line and went looking for the Key sign and finally found it. He should have known where the Key exit was. Our dinner servers were fine, but there was about a 15 minute gap between when our course was cleared and when the next one showed up. It also took about 30 minutes for the first course to arrive on some nights. There was a woman in the main dining room going around asking how everything was, and we wanted to say "um we've been here for a LONG time and there's no food in front of us", but she could obviously see that, so we didn't say anything because we didn't think it would help. I don't know if it was our servers or the kitchen. Probably the most unforgiveable gaffe was the Key breakfast-I asked for a cup of tea and it took FOREVER, it arrived with the food long after everyone else had enjoyed their coffee. But that wasn't the worst part-it was decaf tea, and I didn't realize it until we were driving home and I'm like, why do I feel so tired?!? Had to stop at Starbucks and get some caffeine in me because that was a long drive home. It was really obvious that's what the problem was once I did, and I was so bummed that the dining staff was so careless about something like that, especially when it was a Key breakfast. I asked staff why the Quest had been cancelled, and they said it was because of the dance show being held onboard, which made no sense because the dance show was in the amber theater during the day and the Quest is in Studio B late at night after the ice show. And they were irritated that I'd asked them, which I felt bad about, but we love the quest.
Ship Quality

The Allure was clean, but she was faded. Almost every surface really needed to be repainted, rechromed, or waxed. I remember the Oasis absolutely sparking when we sailed on her in 2015, and I expected that from the Allure and I was disappointed. The interior facing balconies in Central Park were kind of beat up looking, which made Central Park not as beautiful as it was on the Oasis.
Cabin / Stateroom

Some metal parts in the room were corroded, like the decorative band on the wall as you walk in to the left. The panel on the left hand side of the balcony was loose and rattled all night until we jammed some paper in it to quiet it down. Not enough plugs and no plugs near one side of the bed. The shelf above the tv was dusty.
Ship tip
Wait for it to go into dry dock and get refurbished before you sail on it, and wait for whoever is in charge of the food to be replaced.
Sorry to hear. I’ve been on the Allure twice but it was closer to when it first launched. Recently been sailing on Celebrity and really like what they’ve done with the new ships.
I don’t know about this review. It sure doesn’t sound like the Allure to me. Fake review maybe. You say you’ve been on other cruises but your profile shows nothing? No cruises, no pictures.
Thanks for sharing. I understand your disappointment about a lot of your review points. I think all cruisers need to manage their expectations. For me, this means picking a long enough cruise so that one thing doesn't ruin the whole thing, finding an itinerary that gets me off the ship often enough, and the ship is nothing more than a floating hotel. Anything more is a bonus.
We just went on Adventure of the Seas and had the same problems with the food, especially in the Windjammer. It was the worst. Unfortunately, I think the menu is set the same across the cruise line and will be the same on all but maybe the newest ships like Icon.
