Review summary

Our 17th cruise and 3rd with Royal Caribbean - first time on a ship this big. Ports of call were all great but the Allure of the Seas was a bit too big for our tastes. Felt like I was in a Vegas hotel and not on a ship.

Embarkation

New terminal in Galveston is really spacious and made the whole on-boarding process smooth and hassle free.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

Main dining room menu was only fair. More limited menu and quality of food seems to have gone down. Dining room staff was excellent and attentive! Windjammer buffet was meh.

Sabor

5 out of 5

This was the best food we had on the cruise. Excellent Mexican food and the margaritas were superior to any other bar on the ship. Top notch service and high quality food!

Onboard Activities

Entertainment

Aqua show, Ice show, and comedy act were all very good. I’d give this 5 stars except I’m not a Mama Mia (ABBA) fan.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Staff was very good in all interactions we had on/board. Our room steward Patricia was awesome.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Very clean ship, but too damn big for my preferences. It felt like I was in a Vegas hotel and not a ship.

Cabin / Stateroom

Great location in the front of deck 7. Larger hallway in this area and very quiet except when docking we heard the thrusters.

Ship tip

Be sure to book the shows early to get your choice of day and time.

Cozumel, Mexico

I did a Discover Scuba class with Cozumel Marine World - instructor Jorge was great. Wife hung out in beach area during my class. Afterwards we had an excellent lunch at Paprika!

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

We booked our own with Fun Chaser Roatán. A nice new large boat with restaurant, bar, restrooms, and sun deck. Anchored near French Cay is shallow water makes it an ideal platform for excellent snorkeling.

Disembarkation

Very organized and smooth.
