We loved our experience and will definitely cruise out of Galveston again. Royal Caribbean International service and ship were superb.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
The Royal Caribbean Cruise terminal embarkation was super nice. It was fast and smooth with plenty of staff to help with directions.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
Main dining room fare and service was excellent. We had My Time dining and we usually opted to eat later in the evening. We were fortunate to be seated in a quieter area of the dining venue and it was lovely as was the wait staff. The Specialty dining venues that we visited were top notch. We visited Chops Grill, Izumi for the Sushi and Vintages Wine Bar for Tapas (extra charge). We also took advantage of the "Taste of Royal" lunch and while it had an additional charge, it was worth every penny! We visited the Windjammer Buffet which was always super busy and had typical buffet fare and was convenient when we had a lot going on during the day. We also used the Solarium Cafe area, which was more limited on selection, but was nice. We used the free breakfast option on morning at Johnny Rockets which was a typical American breakfast fare.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
Being more senior in our years, we did not use the adventure activities. However, we spent a lot of time in the wonderful hot tubs and adult pool. Hot tubs were never seemed overcrowded. Walking/running track was super nice and never crowded.
Entertainment
5 out of 5
All shows were amazing with super talented performers. As soon as final payment is made, you need to make reservations prior to getting on the ship, especially the comedy show. the all fill up quick! The only one we did not care too much for was "Blue Planet". It was hard to hear the words to the music and was just kind of weird. I would not choose that one again.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Top notch service from ALL the staff. Loved our room steward, who went above and beyond to meet all our needs. Wait staff was fabulous at all venues as was the bar staff.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
Beautiful ship, comfortable beds and everything was very, very clean. Hand sanitizer available throughout the ship. This ship is so big, there were places we did not get to over the 7 days.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
Beautiful room with a little bit of extra room on the balcony. We would definitely choose it again.
Ship tip
Watch the Youtube postings online on Allure of the Seas before you get onboard so you have an idea of what to expect.
We are scuba divers and had a friend on the island that hooked us up with a transport and great dive operation, Sandy Bay Divers. We did a two-tank dive in a small group. It was a Long walk to the transports from the ship.
We booked our shore excursion through the Shore Excursion Group. Again, a two-tank dive with a small dive operation. It was excellent. We did not stop at the shops, but it was a crazy mess trying to find your way out of the port shopping area. It would have helped to have better wayfinding signage. I just kept stopping and asked the shopkeepers for directions. The shore excursion was excellent with great dive sites.
We love Cozumel and have been here many times. Again, we dove and used the Shore Excursion Group to book our dive trip. Again, a two-tank dive. It was outstanding as usual.
Getting off the ship and through the terminal was not terrible. We did have to wait in line to get off as there was a choke point to final scan our Sea Passes. Picking up our luggage was not bad either. It was getting to our transport outside that was a -1 star if I could give it. No obvious wayfinding signage so be sure you know where to meet our transport before you depart on your cruise. The lines were TERRIBLE and people were nasty to each other about line jumping. We saw people arguing and witnessed name calling outside and it just was so disappointing.
