Review summary

This was a very expensive trip and did not live up to the price. I might sail the Allure again, but wouldn't pay more than half of what we did for this cruise. We are not picky people but when he food is almost not palatable and you have to ask over and over for simple items for your suite, it's frustrating. Carnival has better food and the Carnival Vista is a better ship IMO.

Embarkation

Great new port with Suites only area for check-in! Smooth and quick

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
Food was to great. Drinks were okay. We ate in the main dining room, the suite only restaurant, 3 specialty restaurants, Johnny Rockets and the Windjammer Buffet. Windjammer and Johnny Rockets were not edible. The speciality restaurants food was not up to par for the cost.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The diving and the headliner show were cancelled. I can understand the diving due to wind, but the headliner show, Mamma Mia, was cancelled due to one of the lead actors being ill. Is there no understudy?

Entertainment

3 out of 5
The Welcome Aboard show in the promenade was excellent.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
The staff were friendly and professional. I did not give 5 stars because of our room steward. While nice, he did not keep our suite stocked with ice and coffee nor did he keep it clean and he did not put all the info in the suite that told of all the suite perks. I had to ask repeatedly for simple things to be done.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
It was fine. I expected to be blown away because of the size, but really it just hold more people than smaller ships with a few areas that are larger.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
We actually had an Owner's Suite, 11244, and it was amazing!

Ship tip

Suites are the way to go! Pay for the level of Suite where alcohol is included, specialty dining included and internet included. Make sure to book your shows before getting on board as they are sold out and even with Suite level you can't get into them.

Ports of call

Galveston, Texas

1 out of 5
It's just Galveston. Nothing great

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

3 out of 5
Love this port. It is a third world country and the port is in the poor area of town, but beautiful and the people are nice.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Throw away port

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Beautiful as always.

Disembarkation

Quick and seamless

I've sailed on Carnival and Royal Caribbean and found the food on Carnival inferior to Royal Caribbean. Carnival's food isn't terrible but some of it does taste as though it might have come out of a can.......lol

Sorry this cruise didn’t meet your expectations.

Cruising during a holiday is almost always more expensive and overcrowded. Costa Maya is a great port with lots of options.

On the same cruise. Almost ALL the shows were not canceled. If you were in a suit, like we were, the suit concierges Nadja and Sue could have gotten you into any show you wanted because there are reserved seats for suite guests. They did exactly that for our group of nine for the Ice Show and Water Show.
