Review summary

Great cruise. Ship was excellent, sevice was outstanding. Food was superb, even the buffet.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
The new Galveston terminal embarkation process is absolutely painless. We parked in the north lot. The in/out process to the new terminal lots is only hampered by the lack of directional signage, both on Harborside Drive and in the lots, as well. Security is the usual stand-in-line thing but we had a suite and that line was much shorter. After security, because we had a suite, there was a separate line for us to get into the main part of the terminal. Suite guests also have a separate gangway onto the ship so boarding is rapid.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
Main dining room food was excellent and the service is outstanding. We had a UDP and dined at the specialty restaurants six of seven nights. The specialty restaurants were awesome, 150 Central Park in particular. The Windjammer was very good.

Ship Quality

Massive vessel but negotiating it was easy. All areas were very clean and well maintained.

Cabin / Stateroom

Owner’s suite, so it was spacious. Very comfortable with couch and two easy chairs. Carleton, our attendant, performed in an outstanding manner. Cabin was cleaned and straightened three times a day. Ya mon!

Ship tip

If this ship is sold out as our cruise was, be prepared for considerable congestion at the elevators and Royal Promenade during early evening and after big shows.

Good. Did not do an excursion.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Small port area but cute and not too bothered by the locals trying to sell us things. Original excursion (BOSS) was canceled due to rough seas, but the alternative snorkeling trip on Jolly Roger was excellent. Highly rec Jolly Roger!

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

Actually exiting the immediate port area is a drwn out process and a pain. Reentry is direct and rapid. We went to Maya Chan resort for the day. Very reasonably priced ($60 US) and everything is included, even transportation to and from. We were greeted by David (co-owner) upon arrival and promptly escorted to our very spacious and comfortable palapa. The food was freshly prepared Mex and very good. The beers and cocktails were terrific. Maya Chan is not a pristine, run-of-the-mill resort. It is slightly primitive and the atmosphere is local and very enjoyable. The entire local staff speaks English and Spanish.

Cozumel, Mexico

Immediate port area is very clean. Merchants are friendly but not pushy. Port entrance and exit are rapid. Did Atlantis Submarines. It is a 5 minute walk from the port. Lots of fun and the reef viewing at 107 feet was waaaaaay better than Hawaii. Nice shops in the port area.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Painless in part because we were provided with a dedicated departure line because we had a suite. Baggage porter took our luggage all the way to our vehicle in the North lot.
