Review summary

Overall, felt like a cash cow but tried to have fun

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Embarkation was quick, relatively easy/simple. Very crowded but that’s to be expected.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
Main dining room was disappointing, even on formal nights. Foods generally under seasoned, some seafood tends to be over cooked and tough. Buffets are a waste of time, windjammer was disappointing. Specialty dining is frustrating because it doesn’t feel “optional” if you’re looking for great food on your cruise, which is reasonable. The smaller, more intimate venues are the way to go for decent food.

Samba Grill

5 out of 5

Could’ve done without the appetizers, they were a bit lackluster. Main course however, was fantastic. Kunj is an amazing server, very funny, really wrapped our whole experience with a bow. Desert generally was good. I’d recommend Samba over Chops for anyone trying to decide between the two.

Izumi Hibachi & Sushi

4 out of 5

Hibachi Review: Ordered shrimp and lobster, both were delicious. Fried rice was decent, strawberry sake drink was delicious. Talented chefs but quite a loud venue. Sushi Review: The sushi experience was not over the top, but selection was good. The service and presentation of the spider roll and champagne lobster was good, the taste was ordinary. The snow sake (served warm) was delightful and refreshing. Overall, I am hesitant to recommend to anyone looking for an authentic experience, but its reasonable for anyone looking to just have fun, drink, and try something new.

Windjammer Cafe

2 out of 5

Only reason windjammer doesn’t get 1 star is the food is edible, but usually poor quality. Bound to happen when cooking a buffet line for 6,000 passengers. Food is typically bland, non-remarkable, and there are much better options elsewhere. Breakfast is the best meal there but again, there are better options elsewhere.

Johnny Rockets

4 out of 5

Breakfast: Classic american breakfast, no complaints. Breakfast is included. Dinner: Got the applewood bacon burger. Can’t choose how you’d like your burger, they are well-done by default. Overall it’s worth the $13 in my opinion.

Sorrento's

3 out of 5

Pizza was alright, nothing more. Reminded me of pizza places in malls/shopping centers. Thin crust is standard, usual offerings like cheese, pepperoni, veggie, bbq chicken (?). They do have create your own but selection is 6/10 for toppings.

Chop's Grille

4 out of 5

Ordered 9oz filet, it was definitely good but nothing I couldn’t get at home. Appetizer-wise shrimp cocktail was delicious, glazed “bacon” is actually a tenderloin however. Sides were just alright, nothing to write home about.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Many pools to choose from, all over the ship. Good children’s area, Solarium is lovely and open pretty late. Flow rider is always cool, rock walls were pretty much ignored and never had a line.

Center Ice Rink

2 out of 5

My review is critical due to me being a figure skater, just as a heads-up. Ice quality is poor, quite soft, and a very bumpy surface overall and the edges dip down towards the boards and can be dangerous if you get caught. Size of the rink is about a quarter sheet, they do limit capacity to avoid overcrowding. The rules are very restrictive, ie: no “weaving” (passing others…?), no tricks, must wear communal safety gear (helmet), the person ahead of you has right of way for some reason. The skates offered are poor quality but most rentals are. Not very sharp, the floor is plastic and dulls the blades very quickly after walking on it. Overall skating on the ship was cool to say I’ve done it, but I won’t be wasting the luggage space bringing my own skates next time and don’t recommend it for anyone who is a skater, but I do for those with no expectations or experience.

Logo Shop

2 out of 5

Items are severely overpriced, but a decent selection of usual items such as cups, shirts, little trinkets, etc.

Entertainment

3 out of 5

Aqua Theater

3 out of 5

Almost impossible to catch a full show as the 2 times we attempted to, they were canceled due to “technical difficulties”. I understand canceling for rough seas but that wasn’t our issue.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Mostly everyone is quite pleasant, some merchants onboard can be quite pushy and rude once rejected. Guest services told us it was “misinformation” that the other person in my cabin wasn’t able to use our OBC when we went to settle charges that shouldn’t have ever been charged. They also refused to change the charges after the fact and basically pushed us out of the way after asking for our credit cards to get more money from us. It got quite heated and never got resolved and we’re still upset about it but no one cares.

Ship Quality

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Thought an interior cabin would be small and cramped but was actually the opposite. Pleasantly surprised with how much storage is available, the layout is conducive to it being a smaller size and that helps. Decent bathroom, nice closet, desk is available, couch, bed. I highly recommend a nightlight for interiors but just leaving the bathroom light on with the door shut works as well.

Ship tip

If you’re sensitive to loud sounds, noise-reducing earplugs are definitely a good idea. Don’t be afraid to use the deck maps as well.

Ports of call

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

2 out of 5
We did not do any excursions in Roatan but instead walked by ourselves. Take it from me when I say turn to the left, NOT the right when you leave the port and venture to the street. There’s nothing to the right but rude locals trying to sell you tours by walking with you for an uncomfortably long time then asking for tips because that’s how they make money, but they ignore you when you reject them. If you go to the left, however, you’ll come across a random, open, free beach (watch for crabs) with beautiful rocks and lovely views of the ship. Bought coconuts and pork from locals selling out of their yards, and got a real feel for the place ourselves. I’d recommend booking an excursion though and not exploring by yourself in this particular port. The people can be quite aggressive at times.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Beautiful port with lots of shopping opportunities. The “Flyers” were very entertaining, as were the dancers. Highly highly recommend Doctor Dive, and specifically dive master Lucas for any divers interested. Saw beautiful parrotfish, eels, and multiple sea turtles on my dive, among many other things I can’t even identify.

Cozumel, Mexico

3 out of 5
Didn’t see too much of the actual port but Mr. Sanchos was great, not very busy in December but water was warm enough to enjoy anyway. Locals can be a bit pushy though.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
Very quick, was able to leave earlier than my assigned group time. No complaints.
