Allure of the Seas

6 Night Western Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip)

Sail date: October 09, 2022

Ship: Allure of the Seas

Traveled as: Singles/Friends

Review summary

Perhaps it's just me, but I prefer a smaller ship to these mega cities. So much that used to be free and inclusive is now costly. Too many high end shops, need more cost effective choices. Too many $$$ resturants. Why not more inclusive ones? Not the experience I want again.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
Getting on board was a breeze. I'm not entirely comfortable, however, with the new safety video/ ck in process. How many first timers will skip the film? I know the old muster procedures were a pain, but at least you knew your fellow cruisers were educated. Now, it's more like the honor system. This will probably come back to haunt them in the future if no one actually knows what to do in an emergency situation.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

1 out of 5
I only ate at the main dining room, and Windjammer (on board cafeteria). The quality of food was extremely disappointing. The nightly selections only changed slightly with one or two new additions per night. The food was bland, and often tasteless. Obviously less ingrediants are being used. Presentation was awesome. Still, if it's not tasty it doesn't matter how pretty it is.

Onboard Activities

2 out of 5
The pools are so small on this ship, forget swimming on cruising day. It's like human soup. The spa "thermal suite" well worth the $30 per say. Everything just so crowded.

Service and Staff

3 out of 5
Sailing post-Covid makes me miss the older, seasoned staff. They knew what you needed before you did. Many on board are new employees with little training other than the basics. We always take our room steward special treats they might have trouble getting. (#1 request, craft goggly eyes for towel origami).

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
5 stars for cleanliness, 3 for design. For the elderly, or anyone with walking difficulties, this ship is huge. That sounds great until you are on one end and all food is on another. Walking 4 city blocks each time you want to eat at the dining room or cafeteria is a haul. Plan your cabin accordingly.

Cabin / Stateroom

It was perfect.

Ship tip

Aft cabins close to elevator gets to food fastest

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

Where to begin? Took a $59.99 RCCL tour to Tampeloya Beach. Had to "tip" security to watch our things while we ran the gauntlet of vendors getting in and out of the ocean. T-shirts, massages, empinadas, cocunut drinks, hair brainding, photos, jewelry, etc. Harrassed the ENTIRE 3 hours stranded there as buses dropped us at 12 came back at 3.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

5 out of 5
Recommend the Mayan Healing Ritual. Nice shops, be sure to haggle, its expected.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
As always it is experienced with tourists and great to visit.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
LONG lines, hour & half standing. Hot, muserable, etc.
