Review summary

Allure of the Seas is a beautiful ship and although she's large, we never felt like we were walking miles at a time. It never felt too crowded, the size of the ship was enough to keep the masses spread out. Elevators got crowded during meal times, and port days, but otherwise were easily accessible. Our 10yr old and 3yr old loved it as much as we did. There's definitely something to be said for Oasis Class ships paving the way.

Embarkation

5 out of 5
It was storming in Ft. Lauderdale the morning of embarkation and we weren't due to board until 1pm, but Port Everglades allowed earlier boarding. The process was smooth and quick.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

5 out of 5
We loved our waitstaff, Bryan and Jun in the American Icon Grill. They made sure to cater to our needs/wants and always made us feel welcome.

Onboard Activities

5 out of 5
Our kids loved the carousel, the Oceanaria show, putt putt and the playground. Our daughter enjoyed the rock climbing wall and zipline.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
We absolutely loved Oceanaria, the talent of these athletes is incredible. We watched it several times and even enjoyed seeing them practice. We did not get a chance to see Mamma Mia due to scheduling conflicts. The Ice Games show was cute and upbeat, a lot of good tunes were played. Again, the ice skaters were superb!

Children's Programs

Although we signed up both kids for the Adventure Clubs, they did not attend.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Upon first sight of our stateroom, we were met with a horrible ammonia (cat pee) smell. I went to Guest Services and reported the issue and we were moved into a different room once all passengers had boarded. They also offered us a complimentary meal at a specialty restaurant for the trouble

Ship Quality

5 out of 5
Allure of the Seas is the largest ship we've been on (previously cruised on Enchantment, Monarch and Brilliance with RCCL, Disney Dream and MSC Divina). It was breathtaking and was definitely my favorite ship so far. Most of the time it didn't even feel like you were on a ship. We loved the Royal Promenade, Boardwalk and Central Park.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
We ended up staying in 9316 instead of 9718 due to the odor issues, the rooms were identical though and very comfortable for 2 adults and 2 children. Fernando was our stateroom attendant and always greeted us with a smile and asked if we needed anything. Even on days where we had returned to our room before he had a chance to get there, he was insistent on accommodating our needs.

Ship tip

She's big, but beautiful and a lot smoother than smaller ships.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida Did not visit port

We were only in Ft. Lauderdale long enough to fly in/out.

Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras

5 out of 5
We did an excursion to Sol Y Mar, a private beach resort with buffet lunch and a selection of unlimited beverages. The locals of Honduras are extremely friendly. The resort itself was beautiful, serene and private. They had a nanny on staff to help encourage the kids to play in the sand, play together, etc. They had sand toys and floats available. The water was so clear and clean.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

3 out of 5
I could take or leave Costa Maya. From where we were docked, the walk to Costa Maya was super long and it was hot. By the time we made it into the shopping district, we were just tired and bored. They had plenty of shops, bars and food, but it just didn't appeal to us who aren't really on a cruise for shopping non stop.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
We've visited Cozumel a handful of times, but this is the first time we did an excursion. We booked a beach day at Playa Mia with buffet lunch and unlimited selection of drinks. The sand in Cozumel is a lot more dense than Honduras, it was hard to walk even in the water sometimes. They did, however, have a covered buffet area with fans, plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas and enough attendants to accommodate everyone. This excursion also included access to their Buccaneer Bay play area for kids that our toddler loved. There were two other pools. And spa services offered at an additional cost.

Disembarkation

5 out of 5
We were scheduled to disembark at 8:30am, process was smooth.
