Review summary

Allure of the Seas is amazing! It’s astonishing at what Royal Caribbean was able to design into the Oasis class ships. The food being served aboard this time was disappointing. I wished I could blame current supply chain issues but considering we was just on a Royal Caribbean cruise last month that provided the food quality R.C is known for, I can’t use that as the excuse. It truly does bother me to type negative things about Royal, we have been extremely loyal with repeated bookings aboard their ships. Not offering several of the staple Royal Caribbean entertainment options with guest health concerns as the reason is a weak excuse aboard this class of ship. On some of the smaller ships I understand it. To sum it up, the ship was great as expected but we spent 8 nights aboard being served food that didn’t taste good. The regular production shows was as always great but the daily highlight of entertainment consisted of trivia and bingo. It was a nice cruise but felt “off” when we know what Royal Caribbean is capable of and known for, it’s why we have repeatedly booked with them.

Embarkation

Extremely rude staff working security at the port. Royal Caribbean having guests select times for arrival to check-in was completely useless, passengers of all time selections was all standing together in the 2 hour line to move through the checkpoints. Be prepared to show the same documentation repeatedly. It did not matter if guests had purchased The Key nor did it matter if you was at a higher tier status in the Crown and Anchor, we was all in the line waiting the same wait time. We felt horribly bad for the seniors who was having to stand and wait, some was having a very difficult time with the long periods of standing. We have been on multiple Royal Caribbean cruises and this type of embarkation experience was a first.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
After multiple Royal Caribbean cruises this was our first with being disappointed and dissatisfied with the food.

Opus Dining Room

2 out of 5

The crew serving was great but the taste of food really wasn’t all that good. Even the “safe” items that you can always count on being good across all Royal Caribbean ships was off. This was our second cruise aboard the Allure and the differences in taste of food between the first cruise and second was a drastic change.

Sorrento's

4 out of 5

Great place to stop in for a slice

Johnny Rockets

5 out of 5

Amazing as always! The crew was awesome, we really enjoyed Johnny Rockets on this ship.

Windjammer Cafe

1 out of 5

This is the first time out of all of our Royal Caribbean cruises that I have complained about the food with a 1 star review. The Windjammer service was great as always but the taste of the food was really not good at all.

Onboard Activities

It’s an Oasis class ship, there’s always something to do. It is hard to understand why Royal Caribbean considers gathering in studio B for a 70’s disco or silent disco is safe but gathering for a belly flop competition is scratched due to safety of guests? We can all dance together but we can’t be together and watch a few fools jump into a pool landing on their bellies? On all Oasis class ships we have been on the belly flop was held at the Aqua Theater. The same theater we can sit together and watch the Aqua show suddenly becomes a covid health issue for a belly flop? Look, I’m 100% for guest safety but it sure appears covid has become an easy excuse to use on deciding what to offer and what not to offer aboard.

Entertainment

5 out of 5
The Aqua show is great, I am still amazed that this type of show occurs at seas aboard a moving ship. The ice skating show was ok. The performers are great but the show itself is kinda dorky. The performance of Mamma Mia was excellent, absolutely was not a typical cruise ship performance. The comedians brought on for this cruise was also really funny.

Cabin / Stateroom

5 out of 5
Typical cabin with balcony. Nothing really special to comment about but nothing at all to complain about, it was just typical which for me is perfect. The cabin attendant was awesome and obviously took great pride in keeping his row of cabins well attended too.

Ship tip

At this current time in sailing with covid restrictions be prepared to not have the typical cruise experience we are used to pre-covid. I don’t care if this makes some people mad, it’s just my opinion that Royal Caribbean is using “covid” as the excuse to not provide several entertainment offerings that we and many other passengers we spoke with want back sooner than later. Be prepared for an abundance of trivia on the cruise compass to be passed off as passenger entertainment. Hey, we love trivia but when it’s the main entertainment offering day to day it gets old real quick!

Disembarkation

If covid has done anything good for cruising it’s disembarking!
