Review summary

This was our first RCCL cruise and we now know that we do not like this ship class. It is too big. We are not a fan of the neighborhood feel. Our dining room was on a different level from the bars so there was no way for us to get a drink while we waited for our table at dinner. I don't like having to make reservations for dinner when booking my time dining. If you don't make them before boarding your choice is to wait in line for dinner. if you do make reservations nce you've boarded your time choices are all after 8pm. Although we liked the shows we did not like having to reserve them before boarding. When I am on vacation I don't want to think about what I will be doing an aparticular night three months before it happens.

Embarkation

They have embarkation down We ordered an Uber and were on the ship witha drink in 45 minutes.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The Main Dining Room food and service was outstanding. My only complaint is that we did my time dining and had to make reservations to avoid waiting in long lines to eat. We do The equivalent on other cruise lines and can go, check in and get a drink while we wait. There really isn't a bar near there. There is a small bar between check in and the dining room but there were a ton of people in there and never a seat.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
We loved the solarium, we did mini golf, and my husband did the zip line.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
The shows were great, but we did not enjoy the live music as much as we have on other ships. The draw back to a ship that big is that you have to reserve everything in advance or wait in line and hope you get in. I don't like doing this on vacation.

Children's Programs

No kids

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
We had wonderful servers in the dining room Wesley and Shelley Anne both from Jamaica were amazing. We sat in there section almost every night except one when for whatever reason our table was given to someone else.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
We do not like this design of ship. We now know that it is just too big for us. I am not a fan of the neighborhood. We like the lobby bar feeling much better.

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
The cabin was nice but I think it was lacking storage. They do not have robes in the cabins, you have to request one. this is a personal preference of mine to just have it in the cabin upon arrival.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Loved St. Maarten. Did a toor of the island including a rhum distillery and would recommend it.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

5 out of 5
We love this port but were disappointed when they cut our time here because of the mechanical issues on the ship.

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

This is a nice port. Did the zipline and would do it again.

FYI...Most cruise lines have discontinued robes in cabins. But, you can request them. I believe to conserve water and nature.

We loved Allure. There were 6 of us and there was always so much to do for everyone. I'm a planner so had no problems making reservations for shows and meals. Everyone has different views.

My sons and I will be on this ship in January as our 1st ever cruise and since we didn't know how we would fare with so many days at sea (picked it mainly for the itinerary) I'm looking forward to all this ship has to offer. Goes without saying but I hope we have the times of our lives. And I agree everyone has a preference and thank you for the great review.

Try Adventure of the Seas or similar size.

I love this class ship because I absolutely love all the things they have to offer, but it is totally okay to not like it. Some people like smaller ships and that is totally cool. It is a pain in the butt to do all the reservations before hand, but I don’t mind doing it as long as it makes for a smooth vacation at the time. You should try a Celebrity Cruise, I have read that a lot of people who like the smaller ship sizes go in that direction . Great review though, you gave a lot of people things to think about before booking a large ship like Allure.

Ssh113 Everyone is entitled to a opinion I think its rude to say do research when sometimes my preference is just that. Trying a ship to get a feel should be everyone's right. It's a review of there feeling everyone should be able to review without judgment.

Wow, I don’t know what to say. You mentioned things you liked about the ship but all the things you didn’t like you would have known about if you did some research on the ship. But also, some are common sense. A ship that large you should know that reservations are needed for dinner or shows. You could have also eaten in the buffet instead. No reservations needed. Next time do some research.
