Review summary

It was a great family vacation. Wish I would have done the symphony instead or even one of the smaller ships that just got make-overs rather then allure.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
The crew was disorganized and while quick was chaos

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
MDR - was OK, nothing to write home about. We went to Sabor and it was horrible, worst Mexican food and guacamole was blah. Buffett was what I expected, good variety

Onboard Activities

3 out of 5
For rock climbing and zipline it is not clear that you need socks until you have waited in line and then the attendant tells you, so that was frustrating. Pools were OK

Entertainment

3 out of 5
There needs to be more variety shows. One of the 2 comedians they had on board was horrible but the one from Miami was Excellent. The blue planet show did not WOW me and it made no sense, I was sitting there the whole time wondering what story they were trying to tell. The ice show, the Ocean Aria, and Momma Mia were great. It also seems that the show times are not well organized and I either felt rushed before/after dinner or the show started WAY too late.

Children's Programs

4 out of 5
My teen loved the teen club except she said did not like one of the counselors. When my youngest finally went to club she enjoyed herself. They had a great blacklight puppet show and I liked that they showed some kids movies in their little theater but the seats are VERY uncomfortable

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Wait staff and room steward were great. While I had no complaints about other staff, my husband said that several seemed unconcerned with issues he addressed as if they knew they would be off ship soon because it is going into dry dock

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
Ship is clean but some things are in need of some love. The arcade machines kept taking out money and had to call guest services 3 or 4 times to get money back on my card. My husband complained about the lockers in the spa dressing room being broken or no keys available on several occasions. It might just be me, but I felt like to get to several things I wanted, the most convenient path was through the casino and half the time I ended walking through the smoking section

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
Size was about what I expected, I wish just a smidgen more room to walk to balcony when sofa bed was pulled out. I think for family of 4 it would be better to not have a sofa bed pull out and have a Pullman bed in ceiling so there would be more room. The beds were uncomfortable and hard and it was hard to keep the room cool

Ports of call

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

3 out of 5
Nice area, but the vendors are too aggressive

Falmouth, Jamaica

2 out of 5
Port was OK, but the way Royal handled the fact that we were not told by anyone until we were on bus that the blue hole was not so pretty due to the recent rain, so they were swapping it with dunns river falls. While they offered refund if we did not want to go, it was too late to make another choice because we were not told this in advance

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
We had a good time, booked ATV adventure and dolphin adventure through 3rd parties and it was great day but VERY busy

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
Loved that having a passport in Ft. Lauderdale meant we could go quickly through a facial recognition area and be done with it. Quite surprised that I did not see any customs people as I normally see, didnt even fill out a customs declaration
