I’m a solo traveler and RCCL is not a singles-friendly cruise line (prefer Norwegian Breakaway class). Still, the Allure is a great ship and worth the higher cost just to try it out. Try to hit all the neighborhoods including Central Park.
Embarkation
5 out of 5
First, RCCL transfer from MIA was disappointing. I had to wait for an hour for the bus, after being told 20-30 minutes. But check in is pretty slick, probably due to my late arrival. I’m diamond level, and that didn’t seem to be any advantage at check-in.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
4 out of 5
The Windjammer is surprisingly small for such a large ship. Still, I could get food quickly enough. Best place for breakfast is the Solarium.
Onboard Activities

Lots to do. 70’s party was great. I like trivia. No water slides. Pools now have lifeguards. Longest jogging track at sea—7.2 laps is 3 miles.
Carousel

Go ahead—try it! Even adults!
Entertainment

Comedians were really funny at adult show. Mama Mia was a toe-tapper. I liked the two ice shows, although the Ice Games was a little confusing at first. And the show at the aqua theater had amazing diving and acrobatics.
Card Room

Pick up daily trivia, word-find puzzle and sudoku here (in racks on the walls). Also games to play.
Service and Staff

I’ve almost never had a bad experience with crew on a ship.
Ship Quality

I was on deck 8 which had the lovely bonus that I could walk to and from the back of the ship through Central Park rather than down a corridor of cabins.Carpets are faded.

Ship tip
I chose Allure, with a forward cabin, so I can get lots of exercise every day just getting around. Some people don’t want that. Also, I felt a little miffed about some new first-class privileges, such as best theater seats reserved for them. I thought that kind of thing went down with the Titanic.
