Review summary

Don’t sail with Royal Caribbean. Beware of thieves and shady crew. My wife and I went on a 7-day cruise on the Allure of the Seas. The ship was nice, but a lot of the staff were unfriendly and the food was mediocre. My main complaint stems from items that were left in our stateroom and are now gone forever. Here is what happened…We used the in-room safe to store some valuable which included an iPad, a smart key for our car, a couple of gifts cards and miscellaneous items that I took out of my wallet to thin it out while walking around; like my Sam’s Club card (which obviously had my name and photo on it). During the morning of debarkation, while still in a slumber and packing to get off the boat and head straight to the airport, I forgot the empty the safe. While still at the cruise port, waiting for our LYFT, I realized that what had happened. I sent an email to RC explaining what had happened before we even left town. After several emails and phone calls over about a 4-week period, I finally received a message that RC did not have my belongings!! What?! Here is the thing. I understand that if I left my sunglasses by the pool, that they I probably won’t ever see them again, but this was not the case!! First of all, the room stewards supposedly do not have access to our room safe. We know this because, there was a point on the cruise where I was unable to access my safe, and the steward had to call someone else (I assume from security) to open the safe for me. Therefore, I would assume that when the steward went to clean our room after we disembarked, that she would have noticed that the safe was still locked. She would have then called security to open the safe. They would then have seen that there were valuables in the safe. They would have then places the valuables in a bin or bag and labeled it with the stateroom number. This seems like a reasonable course of action to me. Well, obviously, this did not happen! Shame on me for not checking the safe, but shame on them for being shady crooks. Like I said, this was not a question of, “I think I left something by the pool or in the lounge”. This is a case of KNOWING that I left items in MY stateroom safe and then being told by RC that they don’t have them. No offers were made to do anything for me by RC, even though there is someone with that company walking around with my stolen items! Even without the safe incident, I was ready to move on from RC crappy service and hospitality. I have been on several cruises in the past and it seems that ever since they changed to the “automatic” gratuities that the staff simply doesn’t go out of their way for you anymore. I would recommend going with another cruise line and only use RC as a last resort. Oh and…check your safe before your leave!!!

Sorry to hear of what happened but unfortunately this could happen on any cruise line

What level & cabin did you stay in...hope it's not my assigned cabin for 2/18

mustang06    7 years ago

I feel for you but there are a lot of dishonest people in this world

Understand you are furious....not cool RC! To the previous posters who say you should have gone in person right away...wouldn't have mattered guys! My friend left all her jewelry (some moderately valuable) in the drawer...and realized it in the terminal...RC supposedly sent someone right up to stateroom and it was gone😫

Sjj196...as I'm reading your post I can feel your anger. I can't believe someone wouldn't turn your things into lost & found. Contact RC corporate headquarters & make them aware of what happened. My friends son worked a cruise ship for 3 years. He said the cabin Steward would have opened the safe before the next guest. RC would be able to investigate & get to the truth.

Im very sorry for what happened to you. But you, and only you, are responsible for your belongings. Like others have said, you should've gone back in the terminal and talked to a manager. But what's done is done. It's a lesson for all of us: don't forget to check your safe. But @sjj196. You said you've been on several cruises and yet, there's nothing linked in your account. ??? What's up with that ?

I agree with sdomres. I've heard stories of passengers finding items left from previous guests. It's quite possible a passenger found and kept them. Just wondering why you just didn't go back why you were there? I know hindsight is 20/20. There are lots of people and days in between the one who received your email and the person who went to check.

I am sorry or hear what happened to you. My husband and I are diamond plus members and have been sailing rccl for more than 25 years. That being said, something seriously went wrong. Communication with the ship needed to be asap. An email would not alert the necessary personnel in time to prevent the theft or the opportunity to make an excuse for your complaint. The only suggestion I can give you is copy and paste your comment on RCCL's blog. The cruise line monitors the blog. Hopefully someone in the corporation will respond to your complaint. RCCL has a good reputation and prides itself on their service and care of its passengers.

I have been on the Allure twice and loved it!

sdomres    7 years ago

How do you know it was staff? It might have been the next guest that opened the safe and took your stuff.

There are shady crooks everywhere unfortunately.

I agree going back in person might of achieved a better result but this doesn't excuse RC's attitude 😤 sorry this happened to you

I'm sorry to hear this been happened. But I think you should have go back in the terminal building and contact staff, if you noticed what has been happened in the cruise port? Emailing isn't very fast way to react. But still your belongins should not been disappeared🤔
