Review summary

it was my 7th cruise and my last, I see a tendency to try to extort money from us everywhere on the boat, we are almost made to feel ''cheap'' if we do not pay extra for this or that, they reduced the quality of the meals to try to sell us the specialized restaurants, no way to fill a bottle of water unless you disturb a staff member, and they point it out to us, $63 for free coke for 5 days, coke costs 10 cents a glass! more sellers of anything on the boat than a public beach in Jamaica!

We never pay extra for anything (except shore excursions) and have never had a bad cruise. Leaving on our 28th cruise soon. Take full advantage of the events on board, movies, shows, trivia, lessons, tours, parties etc. Do your fancy meals, drinks etc when off the ship. Best way to be sure and enjoy a cruise is to be sure and go somewhere you really want to see like Alaska or Europe etc. Or go with Celebrity cruises or others that include drinks etc.

Always bring our own water last cruise on adventure we brought a 36 pack of deer park water. Threw it in a duffel bag and put a room tag on it. Been cruising since 2014 on Royal. Always try to up sell. Nothing has changed since then.

Some people want the extras some people don't. You can choose to pay for the extras or not. There are all inclusive cruises but you are going to pay for it.

Try Carnival? All the Carnival cruises I've been on (just 3) had water fountains where I could fill up my bottle. Yes, they're all trying to sell you something all the time. I think it's important to not take it personally when they lose interest in you after it becomes clear that you're not buying.

Royal Caribbean for a long time has tried to sell all kinds of stuff on their ships. Also, they do push their pay restaurants though I rarely use them. I find the free food good enough. Bummer you had a bad time on the ship. You praised Bermuda but didn't mention the ridiculous $40 charge they hit you with for going there.

Thank you for your comments. All cruise lines are making changes, partly, just to survive. This is possibly what will “ make them” or “break them”.
