Review summary

This was our first cruise and we did enjoy it although the ship experience was greatly lacking. This ship is for those who like to drink and party. It is not for those who wish to go on a vacation.

Embarkation

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

2 out of 5
Buffet was pretty good, but not outstanding. The main dining experience was very good during breakfast, but lacking during dinner. While our wait staff did a pretty good job (although the best direction we got to our table was someone pointing accross the room), the food was mediocre on the best night. Not once did we receive our food before it had gotten cold, and most of the dishes I could have made better at home. The most dissapointing example of the main dining food is that, of the three steaks that my wife and I had ordered, every one of them was over-cooked, cold, and a little dry. The coffee was also horrible.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Did not use any of the pools and only used a whirlpool for a short period of time due to limited space and way-to-loud so-called "music." The entire pool deck was practically unusable most of the time due to the music alone. The water slides and flowrider were pretty good as well as the miniature golf course considering they were on a ship.

Entertainment

2 out of 5
The ice show was ok, and everything else was a complete blah.

Children's Programs

No kids with us

Service and Staff

4 out of 5
Had very little interaction with the room steward, but the room was always taken care of. The waiters were both good (unless they had a role in the cold food). Everyone was very nice, welcoming, and attentive.

Ship Quality

3 out of 5
Things were kept pretty clean, but the ship is beginning to show its age.

Cabin / Stateroom

3 out of 5
The size, comfort, and cleanliness were all good. The only issues were a couple of carpet stains.

Ship tip

This is a party ship. It is more focused on alcohol than on food and decent entertainment.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

3 out of 5
Was easy to get around.

George Town, Grand Cayman

4 out of 5
Did a horseback riding excursion. It was very enjoyable.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
Did an excursion to see some Mayan ruins. It went very well.

Cozumel, Mexico

4 out of 5
It had a ton of small shops. I would recommend taking a short taxi ride to the shopping district where the shops were a little better.

Disembarkation

4 out of 5
It went smoothly

I have never experienced what you did, on a Royal cruise. If you think Royal is all about alcohol and partying, I think cruising is not for you.

If your food is cold, send it back. Or better yet ask for maitre dee. Yes your server is responsible for cold food. They grab it and let it sit so they don't have to go back to kitchen. You wouldn't accept that at a land restaurant. Why accept on ship. You paid for it.

I've done 16 cruises, 14 of them on Royal Caribbean, & I've never experienced what you did. I have 2 more booked because I love the vibe on Royal Caribbean ships. I'm a Christian lady & I wouldn't want to be around what you have described.

Very surprising review, usually the concerns are that it isn't enough of a party atmosphere on the main pool deck. Since the solarium pool and bar is available for relaxing. Solarium is larger on newer ships but still a great place to relax.

You want to talk about party ships you are referring to a differing cruise line. It is too bad toy didn’t have a good vacation. We have not encountered a bad experience with Royal Caribbean. We have cruised 4 ti3 times with them. 4th booked.

Sounds like a lot has changed. We went on this Ship with my 80 yr old mother and again with our while family. Never a problem and never noticed excessive drinking

We were on this ship the week prior to your cruise and did not have the same experience at all. We considered it very relaxing and saw nothing we would consider an alcohol and party atmosphere. It certainly was nowhere near the 3-4 day party atmosphere on some of the other lines. Unless something was completely different, or you abstain from alcohol and are never around anyone who drinks alcohol, I can’t imagine thinking this was a party ship.

I agree with Drdave. I thought that Carnival were the party ships Cruises on Rccl have always been a success.

I'm so surprised to see your review saying this was a party ship. That's the reason I never go on Carnival. Think I'll just stick with Princess, we loved everything about that cruise.
