Ship: Adventure of the Seas

Review summary

Even with the glitches in food quality and cleanliness, we would cruise on Adventure again in a heartbeat again because of the fantastic crew and staff. Truly customer service giants.

Embarkation

4 out of 5
Good. Not as quick as the other three RC cruises but certainly not unreasonable.

Ship experiences

Food and Dining

3 out of 5
The food in the main dining room was hit or miss. The first night we both had prime rib and baked potato. The prime rib was tough and cut rather thin and the baked potatoes were hard and appeared to be rather old. Not good produce at all. In comparison, the lamb shank on the last evening was quite good. Chops was fantastic and Giovanni's, while not as good as on Freedom, was still quite good. The service was extraordinary. Very pleased with all the wait staff in all the venues. Windjammer food was generally good but there were some inconsistencies like not quite done, slightly runny scrambled eggs and really hard roasted carrots, but the roasted meats, goulash and chicken curry were all excellent. Very inconsistent overall in quality and not very inspiring presentations.

Onboard Activities

4 out of 5
Pools were great as were the hot tubs, rock climbing wall, miniature gold course and flow rider.

Entertainment

4 out of 5
Good, but again, a cut below previous cruises. Hypnotist was outstanding. Comedians were good and production shows decent. Keith in the Schooner Bar was a STAR! Funny and kept the place full. We were never able to get a seat because of his popularity.

Children's Programs

No kids with us on this cruise.

Service and Staff

5 out of 5
Outstanding service all around, from the wait staff to the room steward to the bartenders to the help at the photo place. Smiles everywhere and always willing to assist. Had only one slightly grumpy encounter and that person changed with the next encounter. Really truly outstanding. Captain and crew provided an outstanding ride throughout in relatively choppy waters.

Ship Quality

4 out of 5
We liked this layout just as we do Freedom. They are very similar. Easy to get around and elevators were not needed in many cases (we are 60 and 54 years old).

Cabin / Stateroom

4 out of 5
First time in a junior suite and we loved it. Plenty of room, nice sized cabin. Bed was fine, sofa bed was hard and not comfortable to sleep on but very good for sitting. Lots of storage. Some cleanliness issues like mildew under the tub drain and some dust. Balcony could have used a good cleaning but it IS outside so we will give that a pass. However, again, not quite as nice as Freedom.

Ports of call

Ft. Lauderdale (Port Everglades), Florida

5 out of 5
We love cruising out of Ft. Lauderdale and always arrive a day early. Easy to find an Uber or Lyft to the cruise port.

George Town, Grand Cayman Did not visit port

Been here before and decided to enjoy the uncrowded ship.

Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico

4 out of 5
The port has very narrow paths throughout but there is a lot to do with many shops, some excellent food and a pool. We went to Lost Maya Adventure Park and did water slides and ziplining. Fun but overpriced. Would probably do it again as the staff were very nice and helpful. Buffet was good as well.

Cozumel, Mexico

5 out of 5
What can we say? Mister Sanchos was, again, the main attraction and it was probably the best of our three visits. Try the fish tacos and the coconut shrimp.

Disembarkation

Good. We did self-assist. Slight waiting and a bit crowded but we were off within 30 minutes after lining up and customs was a breeze.
