Review summary

I've said that I have never been on a bad cruise. And the same applies again. We have been on the larger RC ships for the last few trips so this was a little change. Didn't have to reserve all the entertainment and there were a lot less people-- but less options for entertainment and food. Sometimes it's difficult to decide between bigger ships with more, newer things or the smaller ships. Fist time on a ship at Halloween, so a good Treat. We selected this cruise to see Puerto Rico and St. Kitts and would recommend it. We were disappointed that RC didn't give us double cruise points when they offered us a chance to purchase a reduced rate upgrade to a Junior Suite, but didn't tell us until AFTER the cruise. But still a good cruise.

Embarkation

This was probably the quickest and easiest we have ever gotten on any ship. The only issue was we had to park a long way from the ship and shuttle back which was not expected. But getting on was very fast after that.

Very good service everywhere and all with a smile. Some of our better stateroom and wait staff.

Cabin / Stateroom

Nice large stateroom. Enough closet and storage for at least 4 people. Very good attendant. Very clean and comfortable. We normally do Balconies so this seemed much larger- well, actually it was, about 50% larger.

Ports of call

Labadee (Cruise Line Private Island)

Just a quiet day at the beach. We found shade and visited the market.

San Juan, Puerto Rico

Still recovering. We did a Land and sea excursion that was a little disorganized at first but was ok. We try not to expect too much from excursions so we are very happy when they are better than expected. We wanted to see San Juan after the Hurricane and support their tourism.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

We were just here in May so it was much the same. We did the Royal Fun Family Food tour which was actually pretty good, better than we expected and the food and drinks we made were all good. Would do it again or with others we may cruise with. Have been here several times and always looking for something new to do.

Basseterre, St. Kitts

4 out of 5
One of the best port shopping complexes I've seen in the Caribbean. St Kitts is fairly small so there isn't a lot to do and much of it is still vacant plantation land. We did the train tour which was pleasant and saw a lot of the old plantation land with some good views of mountain an one side and sea on the other. We had a very attentive bartender on our rail car.

Disembarkation

We did the self assist but it took an hour because the line was so long and seemed to move slowly. We did the same on Allure in early May and it moved much faster with twice as many people. I think we and most of the others all tried to get in line early and caused a jam.

Our last 2 cruises were the larger ships. I'm a little nervous.

Probably the biggest activity was the "Parade" of costumes through the Royal Promenade where they selected the best costumes. Some people dressed up for dinner, we wore Halloween themed T-shirts. My wife brought a big bag of candy and walked the Royal Promenade passing it out to the kids. I'm not a big Halloween person but it was kind of fun. We didn't go to any of the lounges in the evening so not sure what they did.

I've never been on a Halloween cruise, what was it like?
