Review summary
Cruising Royal Caribbean is a complete waste of money. We paid $880+/person for one interior room. (Vanity was broken. Mold in the shower. Broken drawers.) Then they wanted $350 for internet & $60/day for a beverage package (the only thing included for free is juice from concentrate, water, tea/coffee.) Doing so would've doubled the cost of our already over priced vacation. Seems like the only people having fun had unlimited resources or some type of loyalty with the company that they were given freebies. I don't suggest Royal Caribbean for any new Cruisers young Cruisers single Cruisers or families for matter.Embarkation
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
Champagne Bar
It's a fully stocked bar on the cruise ship right outside the casino yet they can't make the drink of the day even though the daily Compass says the drink of the day can be made at any bar on ship so either they didn't want to do it or Royal Caribbean doesn't understand their own offerings
Windjammer Marketplace
Because you're not forced to rely on any Royal Caribbean staff member to feed yourself at Windjammer, this is your best option for breakfast lunch and dinner. However the theme of their dinner changes daily so one night you could go from run-of-the-mill Italian food the next time you're facing a buffet of curried food, so you have to pay attention to that and weigh your options. Check the menu of the main dining room ahead of time which is available on the TV in your stateroom
Main Dining Room
The first breakfast we got up for we decided to try the main dining room. We stood in line for 10 minutes, were asked by the host if we were willing to share a table, said no, and then he proceeded to put us out of share table with people we didn't know and also asked not to share tables. I'm not entirely sure why were given the option if we weren't allowed the option we wanted, but it only got worse from there. They messed up our order every step of the way. It took forever for us to get served compared to other people in the dining room who were sat after us and there were plenty of 2, 3 and 4 person tables that were open the whole time we were there and since they don't take reservations for breakfast I'm not really sure why we were forced to share table awkwardly with others when we could have been sat individually
Cafe Promenade
It's nice that they have complimentary snacks all day but it would also be nice if those snacks tasted like food rather than plastic
Onboard Activities
Day Spa and Fitness Center
Months before the cruise I booked a couples massage and about a week before the cruise I had to adjust the time of said massage. Originally it was scheduled at 7:45 and I rescheduled it for 5:45. When I got to the spa at 5:40 they told me my appointment is actually at 6 and then I was early and to take a seat in the waiting room fill out the paperwork, which I did. And then I sat and I and I sat and other people came in and they were taken back and we would just continue to sit there 30 minutes past what they said was our appointment time. Somebody finally asked us what we were waiting for then the general manager of the spa comes back and says that we were on the schedule for 7:45. they ended up having to reschedule us for the next day because we had dinner reservations that we would have been late for. When we got back to our state room that day we had a voicemail from the spa from 5:38 saying that we had an appointment at 5:30 and that we were late. But when we finally did show up for the new massage they took us 15 minutes after our appointment time even though we had showed up early to do the paperwork and at the end they handed me a bunch of products had me sign a slip and I incidentally bought $119 worth of s*** that I neither needed nor wanted and basically forced me to book a follow-up appointment which I then promptly cancelled because I don't have money like that I love how pretentious they are though and that when we complained to Royal Caribbean's Guest Services about this experience they said they could do nothing about it because the spa is a separate entity regardless of the fact that they are working on Royal Caribbean and can be held accountable by Royal Caribbean for terrible customer service
General Store
Cool selection great prices but they don't tell you until they're rain you up that you're not allowed to have anything you bought until the last night. they should probably put a sign up because a lot of really drunkenly obnoxious people were harassing the guy at the counter and he was particularly thankful when we walked up and didn't argue the fact that we couldn't have the liquor we bought then and there
Casino Royale
They say you're allowed to smoke in the casino but apparently that doesn't include cigars or pipes. The slot machines take your stateroom card but the odds and payouts on the machines are far lower than any casino I've ever been in on land
Dunes Mini Golf
Only 9 holes, so they should be a little more exciting. Also because you leave the clubs and balls out for people to get themselves they were literally all over the deck because kids were running rampid with balls and clubs who weren't even playing so you should probably keep a staff member right there to prevent them from the throwing them overboard or at each other
