Review summary

I did not know that the ships new policy is if one person buys a premium drink package everyone in the room must buy the same premium drink package. I am a recovering alcoholic and can not be tempted with unlimited alcohol, I did not get a note from my doctor and therefore it was a stress factor having to explain myself and beg and pled with staff until they agreed not to make me purchase same drink package as my daughter and her friend. Highly unjust for non drinkers in group.

Thanks for sharing your cruise with us.

There is an exception form to fill out, or you can call Before your cruise to be excused for health, recovery, religion etc.

They could have not purchased the drink package.

I am 21 so I bought the deluxe but my boyfriend is only 20 so he cannot drink. All we had to do was call the help line and explain it to them and the guy on the phone helped us set it up. He was very nice and very helpful and didn’t make us sign up for anything we didn’t want.

I was told if my husband got the drink package I had to get deluxe package for $26.99 no alcohol drinks in that but now we have 2 conjoined rooms and I can just get soda package and he can get drink package

RC does make an exception to the rule. However, they do require the person not getting the alcohol package to get the refreshment package. It can't be done online though, you need to call them.

All adults purchasing the same cabin having to purchase the adult beverage package is becoming a industry standard. Be glad you were not on NCL which apparently is now requiring all passengers to get the same level, though age appropriate type, drink packages for the entire booking regardless of how many cabins the family/group is split between.

If you call and explain your situation prior to departure RCCL will help you out. They have in my case with no doctor's note.

So yea for further reference you can call in advance and they can usually help without even a dr's note, although it's always great to have. My uncle no longer drinks and my aunt does and he's fine with being around it but completely not fair he or anyone who doesn't drink should have to purchase. Many people don't drink due to religious reasons, health reasons and so they shouldn't make it so freaking difficult on those people. I can't imagine how degrading this must of been.

That's to stop one person from buying it and everybody drinks
