We really enjoyed the cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Adventure of the Seas. The accommodations were very nice. We thought the food was delicious in both the main dining room and the Windjammer. Our stateroom attendant was fantastic and the wait staff in the main dining room were excellent. Even though our cruise destinations were interrupted by hurricane Maria, Captain Tomas did a great job rerouting us to safer ports and avoiding the storm. Our cruise director, Elvis, was a complete delight. We very much enjoyed our first cruise.
Embarkation
3 out of 5
Embarkation was the least enjoyable portion of the cruise. We stood in line for over 45 minutes in the sweltering heat of San Juan, PR to turn in our luggage. Once the luggage turn in was complete, the remainder of the embarkation went pretty smooth.
Ship experiences
Food and Dining
5 out of 5
We thought the food was delicious in both the main dining room and the Windjammer. I really enjoyed the made-to-order omelets for breakfast every morning. Dinner in the main dining room was fantastic.
Onboard Activities
4 out of 5
I used the fitness center almost every morning and enjoyed the selection of aerobic equipment and the weight machines. Unfortunately, the trainers on duty were not particularly helpful or friendly. In contrast, the spa staff were very pleasant. If you went to the pools early, they were nice but during the middle of the day they were extremely crowded.
Entertainment
4 out of 5
We really enjoyed the ice skating show and the singers/dancers. The hypnotist and comedian shows were okay.
Service and Staff
5 out of 5
Our stateroom attendant was fantastic and the wait staff in the main dining room were excellent.
Ship Quality
5 out of 5
The ship was very clean and well-maintained. The elevators could be a bit faster.
Cabin / Stateroom
5 out of 5
The rooms are small which is to be expected on a ship; however, I was a little surprised by how small the bathroom was. My wife and I thought the bed was comfortable and the room was clean.
Our disembarkation port was changed to Ft. Lauderdale so we spent an extra day at sea. Everything worked out except for getting screwed by Delta Airlines who charged us $827 per ticket to change from San Juan to Ft. Lauderdale.
we were on independence of the Sea in 2015 when hurricane Matthew was out there and our caption I swear his name was Captain Thomas. He also made sure we were safe. if we would have stay on track we would have been in the eye. Thank God for expercaptions Captains.
It was definitely memorable and we had a blast. I had full confidence that the captain would not endanger us. Life is more fun if you learn to roll with the punches.
Memorable first cruise! You went to unplanned places, and saw unexpected faces, and STILL had a safe and unique cruise experience. Hope you never have to repeat your first diversionary tactics for as long as you continue to enjoy the beauty of the seas.
