Review summary

My wife and I have cruised many times and only once before with Royal Caribbean. We stayed in a Junior suite and found it quite comfortable. The decor is tired but not offensive. The major issue is the food and entertainment aboard ship. No matter how much you try and upgrade you cannot get away from the pervasive mediocrity of everything.  We purchased a dinning package for three nights and the Chef's table. The Chef's Table was very nice. The food was good and the service was excellent. The dinning package was worthless. In fact we didn't use the last day. The beef at the upscale Giovoni's was really bad. The servers were a bit aggressive about being complimented which isn't as big issue but it was a little weird. We always tipped well and realize that the servers are international and customs are different all over the world.

The big issue is that the ship is nothing more than an all you can eat and drink at a fixed cost facility. It is packed with people that want to strap the feedbag on and are always in a hurry to get to the unlimited processed grub.

The pool band knows four or five songs and not well. They play extremely extended versions of everything and are usually slightly off key. The shows are not quite to the level of a good high school talent show.

The bar staff is very very nice as are almost all the people working. I cannot say enough about how hard they work to make your trip enjoyable. That being said, if you are looking for mediocrity in everything and plenty of it, this cruise is for you.

My guess is it's some who is miffed about one thing who just wants to trash RCCL. I've cruised them at least 21 times and again in 12 days and again in July. I'll be the first to objectively critique them negatively if I think it's warranted and helpful to others. I'm cruising Carnival in March do I'll have a data point for them.

Sounds a bit pompous and uppity. Another person looking for Seabourn ammenities at Royal Caribbean prices. We have always found the food and entertainment to be excellent on Royal. The ice show is absolutely amazing for the size rink they are working on.

Also why don't you list your extensive cruise history in this forum under my cruises so we all have a better idea of how much value to place on your critique.

Sounds like a reasonable evaluation, but all cruise lines are not created equal and neither are their prices. So please tell us, for the same dollar and itinerary what cruise line is much better. And please don't insinuate NCL or Carnival is significantly better.
