Onboard the ship all charges will be linked to your credit card so you do not need cash. However off the ship we like to use cash because credit card companies will charge you a fee for using a credit card in a foreign country. Also you need cash if you’d like to get a taxi or tip the waiters or room attendant extra on the last night. Some of the port venders will also lower the price if you have cash and a few only take cash.

For Royal you will need a credit or debit card to get through the online check-in, or be linked as an authorized user to somebody on the booking that is using a card. But once at the terminal or on board if you want you can switch your SeaPass card to a cash back account or just deposit some cash and leave it as a mixed backing.

It is not neccessary. Use a cruise card for purchasing
