south america cruise by nagibakel341

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Zaandam / Destination: South America

Was very good but what I didn't like it was the formal nights people walking to the restaurant in short sleeves shirts and nobody would say a thing. If is the new policy they shouldn't right formal in the booking and on the daily news at the boat.

Interesting itinerary and attentive staff by traci45031234

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: South America

This was a last minute booking for us (my husband and I were supposed to go to Thailand in february but had to cancel due to my mother-in-law passing away). Delta fully refunded our airfare (for a future flight), so when I found this really inexpensive itinerary from Norwegian ($399 each for a balcony, plus port charges and taxes, still coming out to less that $800 per person) visiting two countries I've never visited (Brazil and Uruguay), we jumped at the chance.  The most stressful thing about the trip was requesting an expedited Brazilian visa through CIBT, who did a great job obtaining our visas- not cheap! The service on the ship was excellent.  If a staff member didn't have an answer, they made it their job to find out the answer.  My husband and I als appreciated the jogging-friendly path on the promenade.  I also had a great massage and facial with the spa staff.  I'm used to being disappointed with spa services on cruises- they're not generally trying to build clientele since they're only seeing vacationers, so they are more interested in selling products, but they didn't this time, which was very welcome!

Shortcomings were numerous. by LolaOfZander

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: South America

Our cabin was spacious and comfortable and well lit.

For four of the seven days the cabin smelled of sewage or fish. The stink hit you in the face as soon as you opened the door. Several excuses were offered, but no solution.

The balcony door required great force to open or close. A crew member tried it and the door fell off its track and required carpenters to repair it.

The buttons on the phone for calling various services were inoperable.

Being at the stern of the ship, we were awakened very early each morning by loud rumbling and vibration as the ship docked.

The buffet was skimpy. The breakfast choices were the same every day.

There was a desk, but no chair or stool.

There was no full length mirror.

The location that permitted pipe smoking was too windy to enjoy a smoke. Holland America and Royal Caribbean are much more accommodating.

I've had better Norwegian cruises.

Norwegian Sun is a good ship for first time cruisers or a good price. by fdipace

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: South America

Took the Norwegian Sun from Buenos Aires to Rio with stops in Montevideo, Punta del Este, Santos, and Isle Grande.  The stops were fantastic, each one nicer than the last one.  I highly recommend going on this itinerary but only in this direction since it got nicer as it proceeded.

The Norwegian Sun is an ok ship.  Don't expect to be wow'd but it is still better than a Carnival ship.  Food was good, not great.

Great unexpected experience by saltzamk

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Seabourn Quest / Destination: South America

We have traveled with Seabourn three types already and so far they are at the top of our preferences for future cruises. This cruise covered an area we wanted to see and overall they did not disappointed us. Same top service than before, right boat size and a great combination of passengers to interact with. An unexpected last minute upgrade to Penthouse level. Weather was great and we had a great time.Happy

The ports of call we had along this cruise were perfect.the issue that needs to improve is the tenderswe had to take in some ports.there ware not enough tenders and the priority that Celebrity use was not right

we unfortunatly missed a shore excursions in ponta arenas because of 80min delay in disembarkation by the Infinity tender

Nice cruise , expensive shore excursions by georgesalas

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Sun / Destination: South America

The buffet area, sitting and buffet itself, is small, therefore finding a table for breakfast and lunch is complicated and too crowded. The quality of the food can be improved. It seems at times that all they want is to sell you something, I know it's normal, this is not my first cruise, but I think they over do it, then again it can be just my impression.

The shows were the best I've ever seen in a cruise, very entertaining, and of good quality.

Service everywhere was very nice.

Shore excursions are rather expensive compering to those in Europe or the Caribe, 250.00 dollars per person in Puerto Madryn to see penguins, beautiful as they are, I think is too much.

I would recommend this destination to everyone.

ship needs work by BKisley

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Maasdam / Destination: South America

Sailed on the Holland America ship Maasdam on Feb 22 - March 24, 2017 on a 30 day South America cruise roundtrip from San Diego, Calif.  The first part of the ship was good but then we ran into a rain storm.  They were putting buckets all over to catch the leaks.  Had to be careful where you sat so you didn't get a wet bottom or rain splashing on you.  I did not care for many of the nightly entertainment.  I don't like to sit and listen to someone play the piano, the harp, or any other instrument for 45 minutes.  The comedians, ventriloquist, and some of the Holland America entertainers shows were good.  Out of all the shows we went to 5 or 6 of them.  The food was good and the dining room service was excellent.  The room stewards were excellent also.  This is the second 30 day cruise we have taken with Holland America and I would go again, just on a different ship.

Cruise to South America by Cruiser60023002

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Infinity / Destination: South America

Enjoyed the ports of call, especially Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Punta del Este and Lhila Bela.

The excursions were usually good though we had some bad experiences in one port with an old bus and a guide who didn't speak English

The food was good and the crew was responsive except for one person in customer relations.

The ship was clean but it was old and needed some upgrading. The cabins were fine.

I would recommend this cruise but I didn't think Celebrity was a great a cruise line as I had heard.

What else coould happen by forrest2w

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: South America

Landing at Florida was the highlight.  My  rights to stateroom privacy was grossly violated.  We waited five hours to board with no water or other support. We waited three hours to take a tour.  The Argentinians and Brazilians were rude and arrogant.  The programs were mediocre.

Great Ship by TexanJack

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: MSC Preziosa / Destination: South America

Itinerary was perfect, though another day in Rio would have made it even better.  Ship and suite were beautiful, food a little disappointing, service/crew very good.  But you'd better like lots of people on the boat...4700 passengers and 1300 crew.  I think I prefer the smaller ships.

Cruising the Antarctica by Nothingtodowith

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Celebrity Infinity / Destination: South America

We failed to reach Antarctica 6 yrs ago on the same ship same itinerary and decided to take a gamble a second time.  Since we did all the desired excursions at every port, we found it semi boring revisiting them again.  Of course the many sea days did not help.

Ultimately, we reached our destination and were blessed with perfect conditions - no wind, snow, rain, rough sea, and even enjoyed sunshine at the Antarctic!  We also saw a fair amount of wildlife.  It was beautiful, but too short.  But then we knew going in it was a "cruise by".  We accomplished our goal and we happy to be able to do it this time round.

Excellent vacation experience by Cruiser86107906

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: South America

The cruise was excellent in almost all respects.  Accommodations were comfortable, food very good, many entertainment options, and excellent service by all staff.  Only shortcoming was inefficient use of tenders and insufficient time at Ushiaia/Tierra del Fuego stop.

Cape Horn&Strait of Magellan Cruising by GholamFarboody

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: South America

Disappointed about cancellation of Antarctica Expedition due to bad weather but Tour Guide Betsy was so pleasant and knowledgeable about the replaced excursion of Paine National park as well as Antartica itself that  took some of the disappointment away.

Food services were great ,Yes I would recommend this trip by Princess to my friends

Princess disappointed us ... not up to her standards by porteniatraveli

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: South America

This is the 4th time I've sailed on Princess and always thought the cruise line was very good but this time it was a let down. The food was mediocre, the wine selection was non existing, the servers didn't seem happy to be there (in fact there was grumbling over heard) and the cabin attendant was ok but not really on top of things. The post disappointing was that of the port we visited all but 2 had to be tendered in and out with long waits on disembarking and embarking; it was awful, disorganized and uninformative. I don't think I will be using the Princess Cruises again.

21 Day South America and Antarctica by jequetta

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Zaandam / Destination: South America

Seeing Antarctica and the Chilean fjords was amazing! The weather was great and the scenery is unbelievable. Perfect size ship for this cruise.

Be prepared for many days at sea. The ship offers lectures from naturalists and people who have actually lived in Antarctica.
