Every aspect of our trip was handled with competence and courtesy. It was relaxing, interesting, and fun.

This is our first river cruise and our last. We were bored! We thought the ship was going to be docked close to the cities and we were going to be able to go on our own in and out the ship to visit and that didn't happen. We had no freedom to go in an out. Everything is programmed. You eat breakfast at certain time, go on an excursion, come back to eat practically the same lunch every day, go out on another excursion (if you booked another one) and come back for dinner and most times to go back to bed. There is no place to go but the Lounge where the bar is. We were bored! No place to exercise either.

Enjoyable with great food, service and excursions

Viking does it right! Be prepared to walk, but oh the places you will see and experience. Ready to travel on other river cruises with them.

Viking, through its advertisements, created high expectations which were not realized. The issues that we had were that the food was bland; not gourmet quality. Not even close. Those who we spoke with fully agreed. However, the service was excellent, and we overall enjoyed the experience. We wouldn't rule out another cruise with Viking now that our expectations are less. Another issue that we had was that when the ship fell behind schedule due to a malfunctioning lock, they decided to make up the time by reducing the time that we had on our excursion to Salzburg by approximately 2 hours, thus limiting our free time in a destination that we paid over $500 for to a mere one hour. We suffered in order for the ship to catch up to their schedule. No apology or even explanation was issued. It seemed like they hoped that we wouldn't notice. The Amsterdam experience was disappointing. We were relegated to a Hotel well outside any central location. And the Walking Tour compounded the problem; only touring sites outside the Old Town.

Excellent trip. The crew and staff were very professional and proficient at their jobs. There were plenty of things to do along the way and the food was outstanding.

The entire experience was well worth the costs & extras. The included excursion in BUD was duplicated by the evening, paid for, excursion so we'd advise to not do that. The Hungarian dinner & show was loud & talented however the food was meh. The tour guide was excellent.

Our first Viking cruise. We were impressed by the superlative service, the relaxing and comfortable ship and the fabulous crew. The shore excursions were on point and excellent. The tours and tour guides could not have been better, I would recommend this cruise to anyone.

Choose another cruise line. We will not sail with Avalon again in the future. I can not, will not, trust anything that Avalon claims in their false advertising about their alleged ports. Please understand, I am _not_ criticizing Avalon because the ports had to be changed. I _am_ criticizing them because they utterly failed to communicate those changes to their customers. They withheld (intentionally) vitally important information that materially changed the tour. We sailed with AMA Waterways several years back and highly recommend them. We have also sailed with Azamara (not a river cruise) and also highly recommend them.

Biggest problem was Viking wouldn't let me use a $300 ship credit to buy drinks, not what we we promised. Had to purchase $400 drinks package and my wife does not drink. It was a terrible value. All three Viking trip there was at least one negative surprise.

This cruise isn't about enjoying a luxury liner as much as it is about getting off the coast and into the mainland. The Rhine and its towns are historic and gorgeous. We loved every excursion, sometime doing two in a single day. We evening did two evening trips for meals and entertainment -- and loved them all. Staying on board the ship and the small rooms doesn't seem to be very inviting, but the ship is a great way to see place you could not otherwise visit. Highly recommended.

We are satisfied Viking service. Especially, there are host assistants to help in the hotel during our post excursion and the helpful assistants in the both transportation to airport and in the Hungary airport custom as well.

You need to be in Good Health a lot of uneven surfaces and hills I would have liked one day on the ship to take it easy but there are excursions every day and I didn’t want to miss anything!

Excellent first time river cruise! Highly recommend Viking, this ship and itinerary. We are already searching for our next trip!

Suite was cramped. Food was mediocre, particularly vegetarian offerings. Viking knew people were getting sick and did absolutely nothing. 11 of our group of 16 got Covid.

the cruise was a great learning experience and with so few people on board it made things easy to do.

I really enjoyed the river cruise and the Viking experience. The food was delicious and the staff were very supportive.

I will highly recommend this cruise to people I know. The care and concern of the crew, the caring attention to its cleanliness and order, the thorough approach to excursion logistics, the quality of the meals and service, the thoughtful adaptations to the river's challenges--all taken together, one can only say expectations were exceeded. And for that, I am grateful.

Kevin was extremely helpful throughout the Wine Destination trip with AMA Waterways. He is extremely quick to respond and helped to answer any additional questions we had. A pleasure to work with. The cruise was wonderful, with several interesting ports and towns. Enjoyed every one of our included excursions. Staff was meticulous and extremely attentive and fun to be around.

Portugal is a wonderful place to visit. People are friendly; and in July, the weather is spectacular. The only negative comment was the port stop (night stop only — ship’s aren’t allowed to be underway at night on the narrow river) in Pinhão.
