Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Hawaii

the ship is old and lacking in facilities and services.  Very disappointed in the difficulty nightly trying to get a table to eat (anytime dining never worked).  The casino is a waste of time. You can never win (typical cruise ship) and there are not many choices for slot machines unless you don't mind the thick smoke in more than half of the casino that makes it unbearable for any non-smokers. The fitness area and steam and sauna were a major disappointment.  Steam and saunas are in a public area and yet segregated.  Makes no sense at all!  If you go to work out, then go to the locker room, you must change into other clothes to use steam or sauna (in public), and shower in public.  What is wrong with the way other cruise ships are set up? I hated this whole set-up.  Also, the fitness room has 7 foot ceilings, so don't try to lift a weight or get on an elliptical machine if you are over 6 feet tall! Also, it took several days to get used to our micro stateroom with bunkbeds overhead where you bump your head everytime you get out of bed or kick furniture because there is no room to walk.

For me it was all about R&R and I was not disappointed

The dining waiter and assist. were wonderful and always smiling and

accomodating.Big SmileYummyHappy

We did enjoy the cruise and I would not mind taking an other one if the price is

right in  the future. I did appreciated the assistance of the travel agent . I called

several times for various clarifications and she was always very patient and

explaining in detail my concerns .The Grand Princess is a very comfortable

ship to sail on.

Great Anniversary Trip by jbakerlbaker

Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Hawaii

The 15 Night Hawaiian Cruise was to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary and it was a wonderful trip. The food was great, the entertainment was professional and the staff on the ship were very hospitable.  The ship was beautiful and it exceeded all our expectations.

As always, on board entertainment was wonderful as well as the entertainment staff.

Overall I still (and will always) love cruising.  However, Princess is becoming lax.

We hadn't booked airport transfers but came upon a Princess rep at the airport who welcomed us on her bus after taking our cabin #.  She said it would be billed directly to our stateroom account.  With traffic in SFO being horrible, we were glad we had taken their bus.  The shuttle fee was never billed to our cabin.  Toward the end of the cruise we decided to book the shuttle bus again.  Tickets were delivered to our stateroom.  When we debarked, we were directed to the appropriate bus but no one ever asked for or took our tickets.  Any passenger could have walked on and gotten a free ride to the airport.  Poor business on Princess' part.

Hawaiian Islands by larryknott

Great way to see four of the Hawaiian Islands and see how different each one is.  Shore excursions were superb.  Specialty restaurants on board were wonderful.  Cabin crew were exceptional in terms of service and response time.

Beautiful ship, great ports, but not enough daylight by Cruiser678

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Miracle / Destination: Hawaii

The Carnival Miracle is a very nice ship, and it was remarkable how it never seemed crowded. Access to anything we wanted to do was easy with little waiting. We were treated very well by the staff. Overall an enjoyable and memorable cruise.

Embarkation was a bit troublesome. They had one meeting area for Priority, but it was pretty crowded. They said Platinum, Diamond, and Faster to the Fun would enter at different times, but when they started boarding, everyone tried to be first in line. Would have been better if they had 3 separate roped off areas to enforce the order.

Carnival food and entertainment doesn't seem as good as it used to be. This was our 15th Carnival cruise, and we have noticed a steady decline over the years. Thankfully this ship now has the Red Frog Pub, so we spent a lot of time there meeting new friends.

The cruise and ports were fine (didn't have any rain in any of the ports, lucky us), but the one thing we didn't consider was it gets dark by 6:00PM in mid-October. So even though we were in port from 10am to 11pm, you couldn't see any of the natural beauty after 6pm, which is why you go on a Hawaii cruise.

The tendering in Kona is not very good. Carnival was using lifeboats, and it took hours to tender folks off the ship, as well as hours tendering them back on (we were supposed to leave by 6pm, but didn't leave until after 7pm). Being Platinum, we were spared much of the pain, but others were not so lucky.

One of our best cruises by makinhay

Sail date: / Traveled as: Family (older children)
Ship: Carnival Miracle / Destination: Hawaii

Enjoyed very much. The Hawaiian Islands were the reason for going so we did enjoy that. The Carnival Miracle was an OK trip. It was like an economy class cruise. Entertainment was VERY bad. The one good show they had was only 20 minutes long. There was sure no Vegas type shows at all on this cruise. And even the TV service was bad. For most of the cruise we only had the feeds from the ship. The food was great as always. Service staff were always friendly. Would I take this cruise again....... OH YES

the overall experience was not exciting, food was adequate, electronics were poor, except for the show with the  comic mind reader the shows were ok. if we go on another cruise Carnival would not be the first choice I would try others.

the staff were excellent and the best thing about the cruise.

Great way to see the Hawaiian islands! by sarentha

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

This really is the way to go is you want to visit several islands.  Your hotel goes with you and you can sleep in the same bed each night.  This cruise offers you the opportunity to be on shore as much as possible, while the ship cruises at night.

Beautiful vacation by danielledavino

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

The ports were unattractive, but the beauty of the islands we visited was unparalleled. Take excursions: we kayaked, snorkeled (on the way on our catamaran we saw pods of dolphins swimming around), and hiked  through the rain forests and waterfalls. We took a free day in Hilo and walked for miles by beaches and found a Blacksand one and a sea turtle in it's natural environment.  Another free day was in Kauai, where there's a nice enough beach within walking distance from the port. I also recommend at said stop going to Maui divers and picking out an oyster and setting your beautiful pearls in jewelry.  The food on the cruise was overall good,, but my wife was very upset with how poorly they cooked their fish.  I Thought the staff was very nice and I enjoyed the activities on the boat. I would highly recommend this cruise..

Great Cruise to Hawaii by ARIZONACRUIZIN

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Miracle / Destination: Hawaii

The overall vacation experience was great. We really enjoy the relaxation of the sea days and we spent the majority of this time in the Serenity Area which was very peaceful.  At times it was crowded and we noticed the same people taking lounge chairs that would disappear for hours.  I notified the person at the desk but they didn't do anything even though many people were looking for a place to relax.  The food was very good and the menu selection was better than I anticipated for a 15 day cruise.  The service in the MDR was ok, but in the defense of the waiters, there were people coming in up to an hour late.  That really disrupts the service for everyone for the tables they serve.  The only other issue was with the times the Sports Bar and Alchemy Bars would open.  They would post a time but this would be the time the staff began to setup so the area would not be open for 30 minutes past the time posted.  Also in the Sports Bar they would have events listed but no one available to change the channels.  We had to to go Guest Services and then wait sometimes 30+ minutes for someone to be located to come in.  We had outstanding service from the waiters in the Casino. We would put this cruise with itineraries we would do again.

2015 Hawaii Cruise MSG Hamilton welcome home by joehamiltoniii

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Carnival Miracle / Destination: Hawaii

Our cruise experience began at the port of embarkation, in line waiting to show our documentation and receive our ship card.  We were getting many stares and could not figure out why, until someone from the cruise line came up to us and said, “you cannot take that water on board."  I was carrying a big jug of water drinking it and stated that I knew that it could not and that if I had not drank it all I would pitch it.  She said no, I am talking about the case of water...  there, which I had on a roller cart along with a couple 12-packs of soda.  I was confused, but our fellow cruisers behind us said they did not find out about the NEW Rule but just a few weeks prior and were told they could purchase 12-packs of water for $2.99 prior to cruising or it was more expensive on the ship if you could get it at all.  So, I spent the rest of the time in line, on-line perusing the website to purchase 2 12-packs of water; I WAS NOT A HAPPY CAMPER, AND STILL AM NOT PLEASED WITH THE NEW RULE AND THE WAY CARNIVAL HANDLED THIS.  It should have stated something about this NEW Rule on my boarding pass, then I would have known about it and could have gone to the correct location while on the Carnival website and purchased the water and not have purchased water in CA prior to heading to the port.  I would not have been happy about it even then, but would have at least been notified in advance and would not have purchased water that was just pitched in the trash!  i am huge on conservation of resources and that is just terrible!  My husband and I split meals on a regular basis and even on the ship at the main dining, we would split meals versus wasting food just to have a taste of something different that they were serving.  I suggest to Carnival that if there are any notable changes that they post them on the pre cruise checklist area in RED so that cruisers would see it if something changes after they have booked the cruise and prior to printing their boarding passes, luggage tags, etc.  Now, as far as the cruise we had a wonderful time doing a lot of nothing.  After a 15-month deployment to the Middle East this is exactly what was needed.  We did not realize we were going to be on a flash back (Journey’s) / Elderly people cruise, but both were fine.  We enjoyed the few mid-night buffet’s, but really feel that these could be kept at a smaller scale because such a small percentage of cruiser’s actually partake of the food and that way it would not wasted.  The activities seemed to be a lot of sitting around participating in trivia, which is probably fine for the elderly, but I feel that you should have added other afternoon activities like more types of the minute to win it, Bingo, crowd-pleasing 2 people or group participating games.  Even the Elderly would like these; they are elderly, not dead yet... lol!

The Entertainment was good.  Mark Preston and Lovina Fox were wonderful singers and put on a great performance each, we could listen to them all night!  The Juggler was good too.  The Hypnotist tried, but the act was extremely boring and having the audience stating that everyone was faking did not help.  Nothing against the ships performers, but I like the different acts or entertainment that perform every night just like the old times of cruising.  You know, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, however knowing things change having the cruise ship performers and the acts brought onboard performing alternating nights would be a good mix.  The Comedy Club and the comedians:  the first two were fine, then we got Mark and Jaylyn Bishop, and they were great.  Especially Jaylyn, she was hysterical.  We could have watched her all night what a refreshing comic she is and so funny and active.  They both were able to come across with funny material at all of their shows on their own, without needing to use the audience. Mark was very funny, good material that everyone can relate to.  It seemed that the other comics had to use the F—word to have and adult rated show.  That in itself is not funny and does not make it an adult comedy rated show.  They can take lessons and watch Mark and Jaylyn do their routines – adult comedy –no F—word needed!  I would recommend that Carnival not ever have Steve and Stanley back to the Comedy Club again.  They were not funny, not at all.  When they had to use the audience as props just to have a routine, or try to be funny.  I would have thought Stanley who has been doing this for over thirty years would have enough material for four shows, but no; it was sad.  Steve seems to be new, but so whinny, if I want to hear that I can go talk to my kids.

Getting back on the ship in Kailua:  what a poor way of getting people back on the ship.  One scanner, really?  Only one gangway for passengers to get back onboard. Really?  Both gangways should have been open for passengers to board the ship.  The excuse of ,that is the way we have always done it, is not a very good one.  You need to change and check to see how the flow goes.  You could gain a lot of insight if a couple Army Veterans (NCOs) were to guide you in this area, among a few others.  We are experts at moving troops, same concept.  Take care of your people; move them out of the heat, get them to the food and then to the entertainment.  Make them happy not grumpy, that is the wrong Dwarf to turn into… lol!

Getting Back on the ship in Kona:  Big Fiasco.  There should have been a minimum of 6 tenders shuttling people back and forth to the ship.  Two at the ship unloading, two in route to pick-up more passengers, and two loading at the dock at all times.  Instead there were only 4;  2 unloading while the other two were on their way to pick-up.  The waters were rough and having the extra would have proved beneficial.  Not having them caused the boarding of all passengers to be 2 hours past the original no later time of X?.  to make matters worse once at the ship there should have been at least three check-point stations at all times versus the one, which caused another seriously long line.  Not sure why bags are checked again once you get on the ship either?  They have already been checked through security on shore behind chain link fence with no one being able to get to you to hand anything off.  This was very poor movement of people back on the ship!

Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

Pride of America was a good choice--we really enjoyed the cruise and the staff.  The dining rooms were very clean as well as our accommodations.  Enjoyed free style dining and the freedom of dining in different restaurants each night.  Feels more like a vacation with my husband and not with strangers.

Wonderful cruise, crew, and vacation! by maybe

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

We absolutely loved this cruise.  It is the 2nd time we've taken it, and hope to enjoy it again.  The staff was excellent, competent, friendly, and many were downright fun, adding to our experience rather than just serving us.  Just a few notes of things we missed:

*night cruise past Big Island's live volcano eruption

*anniversary cake (ordered, confirmed order, but no sight of it)(we saw other cabins leave their plate outside their doors so we know these were provided to others)

*available recipes for some of the soups (chilled soups were incredible, muselix cereal)

*seems like some of the announcements could have been grouped or shorter.  We don't need to know about every event - that's what the newsletter is for!

Some of the things we loved:

*announcement about the Napali coastline

*welcoming registration process & entertainment (so organized, yet personalized)

*options for workout, walking on board

*daily newsletters and info

*water & washcloth returning from day trips to boat

Beautiful Ship, Great Entertainment Shows, Good Food! by LolaOfZander

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Pride of America / Destination: Hawaii

My husband and I loved the décor of the ship, which showcase many national landmarks and beautiful places all over the United States, and about the heroes that made this country great. The name of the ship conveyed our country's greatness.  We were happy to have chosen this ship for our cruise in Hawaii. Because of the un-kind weather, 2 of our shore excursions (Maui beach, and Kaui Snorkel) were cancelled but staying in the ship about made up for it. I had a solo use of the pool!
