Perfect Costal Trip by SailorWest

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Star Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This was a great weekend getaway. The crew was amazing all around. Due to the time and weather (winters storms coming down from Alaska) most outdoor activities onboard was centered at the indoor heated pool area, the Sky Bar, Theatres and Lounges. Never a dull moment on board the Star Princess. A must do if your looking for a short weekend or weekday getaway.

We Got Back New by TheVerandaLife

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

We live about 30 minutes away from the Port of Los Angeles, so with limited Vacation time at work, this 7 day Cal Coastal cruise on the Ruby Princess was a no brainer.

Embarkation was a snap. We invited Suzi's brother, wife and two boys to join us onboard with the Princess Bon Voyage Experience. For those not familiar, Princess will allow the Public to board the ship for 3 to 4 hours for a tour of the ship and lunch. Cost is under 40 bucks per person and you do have to register well ahead of time. (Call Princess if interested.) One of the really cool things about BVE is that participants, and accompanying passenger, get to board immediately after any “In-Transit” passengers. We were on the ship by 11:45 AM.

BVE is led by the Future Cruise Consultant but since she realized we had been on the Ruby a couple of times, we didn't have to join the group of non-passengers. We were able to drop off our carry-on’s in our Stateroom. Our first time in an Aft Balcony.

We all went to Horizon Court. Since we were first to board, it was empty! After lunch, we took them on the grand tour. Our 13 year-old nephew was looking for a place to stowaway. He had never cruised before. At about 3:00 PM (3 hours onboard), they had seen just about everything.

We enjoyed beautiful weather throughout the cruise. The Ruby is a great ship. Well laid out and easy to navigate. It does show signs of wear but all in all, clean and well maintained.

TIP 1

As soon as you board, put your mobile device into Airplane Mode, then turn on and Connect to the Ships Wi Fi (This part is free). After launching your Browser, go to ruby.princess.com (or whatever the ships name you are on) and you'll have access to an electronic version of the Princess Patter on steroids. You can message other passengers, set reminders for activities, check your account, etc. (See screenshots below.)

Tip 2

Take the Aft stairs or elevator to Deck 16 and go in the Adagio bar. During the day, it is generally empty. Big cushy chairs and couches. Very quiet. Continue out back and there is an outside deck area with a few tables and chairs overlooking the Aft pool. Amazing (See Photo below)

Greatest first time cruise by ezme

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

My favorite part of the cruise was dinner, and the Trivia's. The only thing I would change would be the music at the club, it sounded all the same. Overall, I loved this new experience, and our waiter, Mario, at dinner made our experience better.

I absolutely loved my experience on this cruise! The crew were all positively delightful, very attentive and kind. There was a fun variety of events on board and the daily event brochures/maps of points of interest at each port were very helpful! I will most definitely be coming again someday!

Best cruise so far by JCSJCML

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Grand Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Met so many wonderful people, both passengers and crew members.  Embarkation and disembarktion were both speedy and efficient.  Even the muster drill wasn't too bad.

Room attendant Ricardo is outstanding.  Shows I enjoyed the most were "British Invasion" and the illusionist.  The Crown Grill was outstanding.  I agree with many others about Sabitini's, skip it.  Service in both restaurants is outstanding but food in Sabitini's wasn't so good.

Spent a lot of time in Explorer's Lounge making friends with one of the bar maids there.  (One reason out of many that this was the best cruise so far for me.)  I had a wonderful week aboard and on shore excursions.  I have nothing negative to say about this cruise.

Entertainment by Randyoden1

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

The cruise overall was good. The entertainment on the ship was not so good. The comedy shows were good but the magic shows were terrible. The cruise staff was awesome.  The reason for the 3 star rating because of the entertainment and food could use some improvement. Fix those 2 things then I would of giving you a 5 star rating

Great cruise fun! by RPolicastro

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

The Ruby Princess ship is clean and beautiful throughout. This was our second trip on the this ship and we were just as impressed as our last trip in 2015. The nightly production shows were still amazing and shows the incredible talent of the dancers, singers and magicians.

The comedians and impressionists were the best! We caught every show. There were many fun music trivia games of the 60s, 70s, and 80s as well as bingo. There were many special events during the day

to keep you entertained. Food and service was excellent at the Crown Grill. Dining room meals were very good. Horizon Court food was just

ordinary (nothing special) except for their delicious dessert selections.

The Pizza Bar and Trident Grill serving variety of burgers and hot dogs etc. continuously for about 10 hours daily is not to be missed.....same goes for the ice cream bar.

Shore excursions were well done. The tour to San Francisco went to Muir Woods and Sauscalito is highly recommended. Enjoyed the open trolley tour in Santa Barbara and the Hornblower harbor tour

in San Diego.

In all, had a great relaxing cruise and will plan another Princess cruise in 2017.

Super Cruise by LandM

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This was a great cruise.  We really have no complaints!  We chose an inside cabin and we were amazed at how large it was.  There was plenty of storage space also.  We met some wonderful crew members and loved the service in the restaurants and bars.  Our cabin attendant did an excellent job of making up our cabin twice a day.  Loved the Happy Hour in the Wheelhouse every afternoon.....buy one get one for a $1.  There was also the same deal offered at the Adagio in the evening.  The ports were good and we had more than enough time at each.  We have taken many cruises but this was our first Princess and we were very impressed with the whole experience.

Not my favorite cruise by jblank2123

Sail date: / Traveled as: Large Group
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

This was a relaxing trip. The anytime dining was frustrating as you got conflicting info for making reservations from the crew. We  found just getting there early was easier the waiting on hold for reservations. The service was good, food was OK. The selections were basic cruise fare I had a hamburger one night as that was the best selection for me.

They do still have lobster the 2nd formal night.

The shows fill up fast, there was no adult comedy.

The on deck movies were OK.

The buffet was a safe place to get food  that you had a selection and was good for buffet food.

Embarkation and debarkation was pain less.

Three Relaxing Days at Sea by DVCruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Aside from a rather difficult process entering and exiting Canada, the cruise was very relaxing and I enjoyed three days at sea. Continued on ship from LA to Catalina and Ensenada with seemless re-embarkation.

Mixed feelings by JCSJCML

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Amsterdam / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Doing this once again since my original doesn't seem to have posted.

My feeling on this ship are mixed. I loved the ship itself. She's a floating art exhibit with a multi-million dollar art collection. Everywhere inside the ship is stylish and I was constantly gawking at the different paintings. The staff was great. The negatives were bland food, small cabin and restroom, and the atmosphere created by the "mature" passengers. Hearing them complain about various things including younger people on board didn't set well with me. Good grief! They don't own the ship. I hope to try one of their bigger ships someday but because of the atmosphere I experienced on Amsterdam it won't be a priority.

Ruby Princess cruise to Vancouver by t0022

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Ruby Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Average cruise ship with average balcony staterooms.  We are cruising about once a year and this is our 3rd cruise in 3 years.  Food was below average compared to Norwegian and about the same as Carnival.  Upscale steakhouse served a filet mignon that had the texture and flavor of an Applebee's sirloin. Definitely not the quality one would expect.  Ship tended to be crowded especially the buffet dining room where sections would be closed off and no tables available in the open areas.  We likely will not sail on Princess cruise lines again.

Headed to Canada Via the Coast by DVCruise

Sail date: / Traveled as: Singles/Friends
Ship: Crown Princess / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

SWA lost our luggage so we boarded the ship with minimal clothes.  We were known as the "lost luggage" people and laughed it off.  Princess was kind enough to arrange to pick up our luggage at SFO and bring it back to the ship....very impressive.  Loved San Francsico and Victoria!

Good cruise lousy cabin by Bubba54

Sail date: / Traveled as: Couple
Ship: Norwegian Pearl / Destination: Coastal - West Coast

Embarkation was smooth in Los Angeles.

We we only dined in specialty restaurants this trip as we had the dining package.

 Moderno was fantastic!

Cagneys steakhouse was ok, the steak was cooked perfectly. However, all the side dishes were extremely bland, service was ok.

La Cucina was very good and the service was good.

I found the ship to be in good shape. The reason for three stars on this trip was our cabin I will review it below.
