You might be better off renting a car for the day in San Pedro. There is much to see, but it is in different areas. We had friends pick us up and we went to several interesting new places (Point Fermin Lighthouse, Korean Bell Memorial, other museums are in the area, as well as the view of the harbor from above). After driving through the thoroughly modernized city of Long Beach, drive down the coast from Long Beach is a lovely town to hang out in. The aquarium in Long Beach is one of the best and the harbor cruise is relaxing with lovely local sights. If you want to see the Queen Mary, you don’t need to pay for a tour. Just tell them you are going to have lunch on the ship and you should not have to pay for the tour. The lunch is delicious (about $13.00 or more for a hamburger, but well worth it). The Scorpion (Russian) submarine) is interesting to see also. To the south of Long Beach, Belmont Shores has some nice eating places and walking down the streets of Belmont Shores you find many quaint shops. Also, you can visit other attractions on the coastal area from about 10-15 miles south of Long Beach. Well worth renting a car for the day unless you have friends to drive you around.

Drove in day before. Stayed at Crowne Plaza. There isn’t much to do around San Pedro so we stayed at hotel most of the time. I recommend eating at the Green Onion restaurant which is a short walk from the Crowne Plaza! Delicious mexican food and margaritas. Enjoy!

The port in San Pedro is excellent. Very easy to board the ship and plenty a room. The port in San Pedro is excellent. Very easy to board the ship and plenty a room.

I booked a tour, can’t remember the name but we went to Venice first (muscle beach), then onto Santa Monica pier. I would recommend booking a tour for the simple reason that traffic in Los Angeles is crazy - you could be late and miss your ship. We enjoyed the tour, tour guide was very knowledgeable and there was lots to see in Venice. Santa Monica pier was gorgeous.

Lots of shops/ restaurants to visit while you wait to embark on your cruise. We stayed at the hotel by the marina that had a shuttle to take us to shops and stores. If you are using shuttle to get to cruise ship, schedule in advance!
