A quaint seaside town. The maritime museum is great. As are the Flavel House, and Heritage museum. The film museum is just ok but a must for Goonies fans and a discounted price available for Film, Flavel, and film together. All of these can be done in one port call on your own. Great seafood in town and get dessert at Frite and Scoop for handmade ice cream in unique flavors.

Maritime Museum explains the history of the river and all the shipwrecks that occurred here. We saw how dams, locks, and dredging changed the course of this once dangerous river. Also we learned about the colonization of the river from native tribes to settlers on the Oregon Trail.

Not enough transportation in this port to see much of anything and again cruise line excursions mostly sold out and not interested on ones that weren't. Local Trolley usually meets cruise ship at port but no one from the ship told them we were getting in late so alot of people had to wait 45 min or more to get in the trolley, which only holds 50 ppl, Also cruise ship offered bus to maritime museum for $15 pp but they only had 1 bus and 45 min between to catch it with a cruise of 2000 ppl this is ridiculous. If u walk to any things to do in town the shortest walk would be 1 mile one way! 3 taxi's in town that don't answer and were fully booked. Maritime museum not as great as indicated. Missed Goonies House and Film Museum cuz of transportation issues.

UBER AND LYFT BANNED by city which is not published, I pre booked UBER to wait 45 minutes in the pouring down rain for it to cancel. Let’s you reserve, misleading. Then I called both listed taxis, Mom’s is just one car driven by “mom”, goes to recording if she is currently driving which is fair. Then called the second company which operates 4 vehicles. Waited in the rain for an additional hour. Had an appointment for notary services at the UPS store 2.7 miles over a bridge you should not walk on. Ships shuttle run for $15 but would only get me a mile (each way) from my needed location so no. Moral of the story, book an excursion or expect foot power to get where you need to be or an hour standing and waiting each way.

Do your research - quaint small town. Limited services such as taxi, rental car and ride-share. Difficult to plan your own excursion outside of walking to the downtown business district. Local Chamber of Commerce did staff the Visitor Center and offered friendly advice. We visited on a Sunday (Enterprise Rent A Car Closed, Mom's Taxi is only Monday-Friday). Cruise excursion to Fort Clatsop National Park is expensive for $10 National Park admit per person and charted school bus transportation. If you are a fan of US History, figure out if you can go with the cruise ship excursion or simply get to the park visitor center for a couple of hours.

Been here many times and always enjoy it. Walked around town and went into the antique shops, had a great lunch.

May 8, 2017 is a day we will never forget, we were on the Island Princess, 80+ nautical miles off the coast of Astoria in hurricane force winds of over 78mph with gusts over 100mph was like being on a giant roller coaster
