The folk here are new to cruises. This port has only been in service for a few years, relative to some others. You will find a warm, friendly welcom from the citizens and local businesses. The tram that leaves close to the pier allows hop-on, hop-off service all the way to town (US $1.00 when we were there)

Astoria was on of the highlights; don't miss the Maritime Museum (dockside) or the trip to Fort Clatsop. Both are excellent. Astoria is a nice town too, with at least one good bookstore and several art galleries.

The Bowpicker is a must do. It's a land docked boat on an empty lot. They sell fish and chips from freshly caught fish. They close when they run out. Marine and 17th streets. Across the street from Columbia River Maritime Museum.

Astoria is building itself into a tourist destination. The citizens are extremely friendly and ready to help. Walk the boardwalk into the town centre or take the tram and hop on hop off along the route. If you dock on a farmers' market day, you'll be in for a treat.

In the morning we visited Cape Disappointment and in the afternoon Fort Clatsop. We had a knowledgeable ranger give us information at Fort Clatsop and did self guided tour at Cape Disappointment. Both very informative and well worth your time.

In Astoria , they have a shuttle bus that will take you downtown and back to the ship

A hidden jewel. The bus to town cost $15.00 which included the trolly. By the time we got to the end of town I wanted to go back to the ship. My wife spotted the trolly but I wanted to stay on bus. I gave in and I’m glad I did, it made the whole day enjoyable. The trolly is a must if you plan to stay in the town.

I can’t believe in all these reviews there is no mention of the house from the movies “the Goonie’s” or the school from “kindergarten cop” as well as the location to many twilight movies (so I don’t seem like an old man) This is a great little town. Seafood is crazy good, beer place in town is fantastic. I don’t think people did their research before they went. I forgot what the Astoria tower is known for but it is just a monument but the view from there is killer!
