Absolutely amazing day and one neither of us will ever forget. We booked the Polynesian Motu lunch - little pricey but was most of the day and we did and saw so much. We swam with sharks and stingrays and snorkelled over beautiful coral reef and tropical fish then had a traditional Tahitian lunch sitting at a BBQ table in warm sea water with small fish swimming around us nearby..can’t recommend this excursion highly enough

Failed to pre-book an excursion (our huge Cruise Critic roll call group bought out most of the more popular private excursions about a year in advance) and figured we would just "wander around and find a beach". Nope. One small street with pretty much nothing there. Went back to where the tenders docked and booked a private excursion on a 6 person (plus guide) boat. Swam with rays and black-tip sharks about half a mile off shore (but inside the reef). Had a great time. Also snorkeled farther out - just outside the reef but still over the coral) where the coral was great, the fish were great, and the lemon sharks were deeper than we were. :)

Most of the over-the-water bungalows you see in pictures are a part of the different resorts so they are fairly hidden from view. The lagoons, over which the bungalows are built, are fun to swim in but can get boring because there isn't much coral or fish to see. The bungalows are expensive, like $1,000 or more per night. We did an Aqua Safari excursion on Bora Bora, which is diving with an air helmet. This allows you to go a little deeper then snorkeling, but again, with the coral rather drab in color and the helmet hose limiting your range, after 10 minutes it got repetitive. If I had to do it again, I would have taken the scuba diving excursions instead of the snorkeling.

Did the Aqua Safari, used a diving helmet to explore the lagune. People very friendly but not pushy. Great island but expensive.

Mixed Review on the AquaSafari: 5-star excursion-must do! BUT their up-sell on the photos they take and then sell you on the boat when you surface left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Its about $75 for a group of 4 and $150 for 5-8 people. For that price you should just buy your own waterproof camera but okay, we didn't plan so we bought the package, no complaints. You should have seen the massive two-handed beautiful underwater camera the guy had! Like Jacques Cousteau! They give you a link and if you pay them on the boat you'll also get a USB stick. Pictures were very nice! So, besides the price, why am I complaining? 250 KB? Your smartphone takes 12 MegaPixel resolution pictures and the resolution on these was about 1/4 MP per picture! That's worse than a screenshot resolution and nothing commensurate with what you'd expect with that amazing camera you'd think you're going. We wanted to blow these pix up and put them on the wall at home but can't now. We contacted the owner via email and he was downright inhospitable! He said that the photos had to be compressed to get them on the USB (which is BS in 2018) but how about online? Now we're left with a bad taste in our mouth. Buyer beware!

Bora Bora, French Polynesia — 2 Excursions Glass Bottom Boat: We spent the morning watching the beautiful underwater world of fish, seashells, living coral, and underwater flora. The tour guide narrated facts about the life we were seeing while the boat pilot guided us to many reefs. I recorded much of what we saw on video but I did not realize what was actually happening with other passengers until we played the videos. Only then did I realize what could be seen and heard. The excitement of the children on board when an unexpected resident of the sea appeared below us was heartwarming! There was almost too much to absorb into our eyes and ears. I am so glad I switched to video when the fun began. Bora Bora Island by Le Truck: A relaxing bus tour. After visiting the ancient ceremonial site of Fa'anui Marae, we stopped to see the tie dye fabrics at Mama Edna's. At Matira Beach, we paused only long enough to take photos of the beautiful vistas before continuing on to the famous Bloody Mary's Restaurant for drinks but, unfortunately, were not allowed enough time to eat. CAVEAT: People over 6 feet tall should be prepared to protect their heads when getting off and on the truck.
