Papeete is a City. Shopping, eating etc. It is worthwhile taking a tour and seeing the sites away from the City. Beautiful country and scenery.

The port is nasty! The surrounding area that we saw was beautiful. Get out of the city to enjoy this one.

Yes. Rent a car. Venus Beach best on island. All black sand. Locals.

The only excursion offered on the island of Tahiti was canceled. The port itself is busy with lots of traffic; difficult to walk around to find good restaurants so we tended to stay at the hotel which was nice but expensive. We had purposely booked an additional day in Tahiti at the end of the cruise so we could tour the island but with our colds we preferred to spend the day at the resort's beach and in their infinity pool. I can't honestly compare Tahiti to the other islands we had more experiences on.

Stayed at the Intercontinental over the water bungalow , which was great. had a short tour of the isle on disembarkation day, which was good. that was all we seen of the island.

Tahiti is nothing like you imagine. Its dirty and scruffy, we hired a car and went round both islands nothing of note. The blow hole and water falls are the highlight but don't get too excited as you will be disappointed.

No excursion. It is nice to walk around and visit the shops, especially the two story marketplace. We enjoyed street entertainment almost everywhere we went.
