We just relaxed at our hotel (Sofitel) for a short time before and after the cruise, so we can't really rate this port. The cruise line did not offer any shore excursions for "cruise-only" passengers, although we could have taken one through the hotel. The town is right by the dockside, so very convenient.

Did the Tahiti Natural Treasures around the island-the guide Lydia made it all worthwhile.

Would possibly rate this port higher if we had done an excursion and got out of the city. Papeete itself was pretty ordinary and quite dirty

I really did not care for Papeete. The area where the ship docks and surrounding store areas could be cleaner. There was really not much to buy unless you were in search of pearls. Most everything is very expensive and it is not a shoppers paradise. As for tours, not really much to see that I would consider interesting.
