Took tram up hill. Then took free shuttle bus to Zeelandia where we saw lots of birds. Also saw the tuatara! Well worth it. Went through Botanical Gardens, lunch at Churchhill's in town. Went to the library to see the Maori Treaty with the Brits. Toured Parliament Building. Very easy to get around!

We love Wellington, but as we have been here a few times, opted to do a quad bike tour which took up the whole day (through the ship). It was an experience I won't forget as quite full on. Not one for the fainthearted.

Definitely recommend exploring Wellington on your own. The free shuttle will take you within a couple of blocks of the the Te Papa museum which was excellent, and admission is free. We particularly enjoyed the war exhibit. Then we walked to the cable car, took it one way and walked through the botanical gardens. It was about a 45 minute walk thru the gardens, mostly downhill and brings you back to within another couple of blocks of a shuttle stop back to the port.
