We had been to the area before so we just took a shuttle bus to the town and wandered around on our own. A quaint town and lots of shops if that’s what you want.

Wonderful way to see the diversity of New Zealand countryside and industry...rolling hills with grazing sheep, deep gorges with rock formations and rivers, managed forests (old and new) for the timber industry, grazing cattle and relaxing ride. Needs were met with juices as we boarded, morning ‘tea’ around 10 AM, amazing boxed lunch and free beer and wine throughout! Very congenial volunteer servers on board and informative broadcast narration during the outgoing part of the tour. We thoroughly enjoyed the day’s excursion!!!

Did the Taieri Gorge train from Dunedin Railway station, booked directly with the station and Headfirst tours did the shuttle and city sights tour afterwards. Well worth it, and half the price of the Ship's own tour. We actually got the heritage carriage to travel on as well, which was an added treat. The scenery is spectacular.
