We stayed 2 days in Auckland. Took a city tour (not so great) and a Hobbiton/Waitomo glowworm cave tour (great).

Auckland is just another city in my eyes, so we jumped on a ferry and explored the nearby island of Waiheke by car, you can get around it all in 4-5 hours stopping at fabulous photography points, vine yards and local shopping area. Again so much to do and see and not enough time.

We did not do an excursion in Auckland. We went directly from the ship to the airport. The only negative was that our airlines did not open their check in until an hour after we got there. What a mess! The airport itself is very nice with a lot of shopping and places to eat, but they really need to do something about keeping check in areas open 24/7 - especially since they're an international airport.
