We never docked. Chile closed the port and after 2 days of circling around in sight of San Antonio and negotiations between government officials still denied entry. We had already planned on staying on ship for back to back cruise to San Diego. This cruise was canceled on 3/14 and created chaos for us. We were told we were to get off the ship in less than 24 hours and had to find a flight home. Then the ship was denied entry. All the people who were to get off were stuck on the ship. Those who were to get on the ship were stuck in Chile.

This was the worst situation we have ever experienced but it was almost entirely out of HAL's control. I referenced the events in an earlier section.

We had a private tour to Vina Del Mar, Vaparaiso and its UNESCO sites, went to a winery and then got dropped off at our hotel in Santiago.

Our port was switched to San Antonio after we booked the cruise. San Antonio is not yet equipped to handle cruise ships or tourists. It sound like it will be better in a few years once they have a chance to build some infrastructure. The streets were all jammed with traffic from all of the taxis and busses trying to get to the port. We stayed in Santiago then hired a local tour guide to take us to Valparaiso then on to San Antonio.
