Not enough time there Beautiful- intriguing- do a private tour- our large tour dragged and we missed a lot. Not enough picture stops.

You can't walk away from this port, you have to go by your or taxi. We took a cheap taxi to the volcanic black sand beach, really nice. Locals keep their clothes on to sunbath. Bikinis would be frowned upon. We were accosted by local men who wanted us to drink with them. Didn't feel particularly staff.

A contrast to Puertos Caldera and Corinto-it was a Cruise ship port. Greeted with a band and a vendor market. 4 of us contracted a taxi (Taxis de Turismo Porteno) and Fredy Gudiel Martinez as our guide. Took the trip into Antigua Guatemala, 500 year old city. Sharp contrast with Nicaragua. The people were super friendly, the town very clean and prosperous. Antigua is well worth the visit. The road from the port to town about 50 miles long had 5 bridges destroyed in 2018 due to the local volcano. What is impressive the government was repairing all 5 at once.

Taxi 1.5 hours to Antigua, worth doing once next time I'll stay on the ship at this port

did our own excursion, went to a beach, which was not very good, the sand is black so it was so hot that we could not even walk on it, even with shoes on. The waves were very rough so we did not bother. Husband did the Volanco climb which he really enjoyed

Charming visit to the former capital city of Antigua, too bad the travel time to and from the city was nearly two hours each way. There are some sites to visit near the pier.
