Because of protesting in San Jose, each excursion bus was escorted by cops/security with guns on motorcycles. Was a bit alarming but they wanted to protect the tourists. We did not take an excursion but chose to walk around the town and was treated respectfully and enjoyed stretching our legs.

We took an excursion to the canal boat ride which included time at a fruit stand, a tour of the city, a banana plantation and some beach time. Off the ship we paid about 1/2 the price or less to take this tour. In general, it was a good experience, but we were glad we didn't pay the ship's pricing.

Definitely a third world country. The people are so welcoming and warm "Puda Vida" (I just had to say that). We did the 'Your Lucky Tours' through trip adviser. We chose to do the zip-lining & canal trip. We really wanted to do the white water rafting but we were told we can only do that if we had 6 peeps (sigh). Yourluckytour@gmail.com 321-338-8720. We did the zipline for $33ea and jungleboat tour/ banana plantations for $35ea. We met our kind driver with broken english outside by the main street. He was holding up a sign with my name on it. He was such a sweet man who loves his country. The drive to ziplining was wonderful. We saw sloths, toucan (yes, just like Fruit Loops!) & holler monkeys (yikes, they truly can make some noise). Our banana tour was cut short because someone had to go to the bathroom and there were no bathrooms open nearby (we won't mention who that was, lets just say it wasn't me. wink wink). We then went to the fruit stand and had fresh bananas (YUM) and a coconut (GULP). During our jungle tour we some lizards, birds, sloths, and locals fishing (boy did I wish we could have rafted). Overall it was a fun filled day and we were tired at the end. I got my toes painted in the little flea market, I figured it was okay as long as they didn't do the scraping/scrubbing/filing right? In the end I am happy with our excursion and thought it was better than doing the 'Original Canopy Zipline Tour & Veragua Aerial Tram' for $199.95 with the cruise line.

A decent bus, train, & boat excursion with lots of wild animals on view. A very entertaining tour guide made a large and positive impact. Best tour of the cruise.

We weren't sure about what we wanted to do in Limon and, therefore, didn't schedule any excursions. We got off the ship mid-morning and encountered one of those tour guide/taxi drivers who hang out at most ports. This one told us about a ziplining company that was superior to the one offered by the ship's excursion office. "Jungle Breezes" is the name of the company. She said this ziplining experience had much longer runs that were fast and lots of fun. Plus, it was $50 per person, compared with a much higher price via the ship's. We had a BLAST!!! We saw a sloth up in a tree, huge iguanas, and were up high in the rainforest canopy. Based on the median age of this cruise, 71, and the fact that Princess caters to an older demographic, I'm guessing that the ship's ziplining excursion was a bit tamer. I highly recommend Jungle Breezes -- dont be taken aback by the rugged drive there, which happens to be much, much closer than the Veragua ziplining location. It was nice to have a short drive through town with a cab driver than board a huge bus and travel over an hour to Veragua.
