Port city was interesting, but only represents one part of what Costa Rica has to offer.

we enjoyed the Pura Vida Chocolate Experience tour. It was interesting to see them make chocolate by hand....it was very bitter & grainy though. Highlight here was we saw a sloth on the ground & then climb a tree.

We did the Caribbean Train, Eco-Cruise and Countryside excursion with Norwegian. It was enjoyable. We thought the train ride was okay, but were sitting on the right side, so we couldn't see much. The countryside drive through the banana fields was insightful, and our guide was very knowledgeable and loved his country. The ecocruise was the highlight, and we saw lots of animals in the trees. There wasn't much to do near the port, but there was a large market with lots of local artisans selling their wares.

Not much to do at the port itself from what I could see, but the Train, Boat, Bus excursion was very good.

Port is a little distance from shops etc. The vintage train excursion was great.
