Booked Live the Traditions of Nicaragua through HAL. Small busses took us to a church then to two farms for lunch and culture. We feel it was interesting and good value for our money. The port itself is another industrial port but in this case there were entertainers waiting for us. Traditional dancers and several bands played for our arrival. There was also a small vendor area set up. I must say it was nice to see the effort made to greet us at this port.

There is nothing in Puerto Corinto. You have to take an excursion and they all require bus rides to somewhere. Be careful if you pick an shipboard excursion. Check the length of time you'll spend on the bus. If you don't mind the bus ride, you'll probably be ok because the guide will give you excellent explanations of the country, its history and the sights as you pass through the countryside, but if you don't want to sit on a bus, the ride can be tiresome. Note: our shipboard excursion was 7.5 hrs long but we spent 4.5 hrs aboard the bus...way too much time sitting on our butts in a bus.

Eat at Espigon Restaurants a $5 bike/taxi away from market. Don't take the bike tour from the ship port. They charge a fortune. Oh, if you go to Espigon, take your swimsuit. They have a beach.

The town of Corinto and our visit of Costa Rica were our favorite ports of this cruise. The people of Corinto were especially friendly. Often it takes just one person to make a huge impression. A young man (18 yrs) named, Amando, was really good in showing us Corinto: where he, his siblings and mother lived, his school and meeting with his English teacher, a museum, a church, visited with a few of his friends, helped us to understand a bit of the culture and just an all around great time. He took us on this tour via his tri-cycle.

Al though I did not tour this port, I did enjoy the entertainment provided dock side by the young dancers and musicians throughout our stay.

We arrived at the port to dancers and school children so happy to see us. Got of the ship and hired Nicaragua Tours Team to take six of us on a tour of things we wanted to see. Daisy was an excellent guide. We told her we wanted to see how she lived and to see her country. She did an excellent job of showing us the countryside, old churches and the market in the town of Leon. This was our favourite port and would highly recommend Nicaragua Tour Team. They made sure we were back to the ship on time.

A short walk from ship to the town which is very poor so be prepared, but the people were very friendly, and take a ride on the bike carts which are used to transport tourists round $1 each!
