Did not do an excursión. Very easy to get to center of town and just wander using free tram service and visiting free museums.

Not a fan of Melbourne. We did the hop-on-hop-off bus. It sat for so long as some stops and was so full you couldn't see out the windows for the sights. Did the Queen Victoria markets but didn't buy much and nothing took our fancy. Many stalls selling the same thing.

We spent a few days in Melbourne prior to the cruise. The highlight for us was a visit to St Kilda breakwater to see the fairy penguins close up—a memorable wildlife experience, and one just minutes from the city centre. Some other highlights included the tram ride around the city centre, walking the CBD and seeing places such as the Hopetoun Restaurant (a must do place for morning or afternoon tea, at the very least!).

Our experience of Melbourne was not very pleasant. We visited it twice on this cruise. Both times we had to go through the re-embarkation process. Which was chaotic and crowed (everything the Adelaide embarkation process had not been.) Have to say I was not impressed considering we were transit passengers. We got to do some pleasant walks along some very good walking tracks on the coast, but the whole experience at the Terminal was a dampener those walks.
