We went to a place to ride elephants through Azamara. We also saw a monkey and elephant demonstration. I didn't think the animals were being treat very well.

Phuket, a separate excursion at the end, was great--elephant ride/experience was all you'd hope for.

It's better not to exchange money immediately at the port, very poor rate. You will get better rate 500 meters away.
